Long Sleeve Shirts

Does anyone else hate Polos, especially shiny ones?  What are you all wearing to play in?  I was thinking about just moving to button downs.

I’m usually in a polo. At times I’ll tuck in a plain t shirt and then wear some type of pullover over that.

some types of synthetic fabric can be uncomfortable against the skin.

while many say that cotton polos are old fashioned, the pima cotton ones are soft and get good reviews.

as to button down shirts, you might try a short sleeve oxford weave and see if that fits your requirements.

there used to be a pullover type with a three or four button placket offered by LLBean.

one of the guys at our old course wore that type fairly often.

he also disliked polo shirts.

I have been looking for Poly (non-cotton) long sleeve golf shirts and it is hard to find. 

Most of them are blended with cotton.

The thread title along with your original post have me a bit confused. The original post sounds like you don't like "shiny" polos. Why not just buy a different material instead of switching to a totally different style of shirt? Or are you looking for a long sleeve shirt like the title suggests?

 

Personally, I would never consider wearing a button down on the course. To me it seems like it would be one of the most uncomfortably hot and restrictive types of shirt you could wear to play golf in.

Sorry, yes, I’m looking for comfortable button downs to wear while playing. I work outside in the summer in button downs and steel toe boots, so I’m not really concerned about the heat.

Alright, I am going to solve everyone's problem here and suggest a shirt that is a) a totally synthetic, b) collared, c) very breathable, d) High UPF (50+) e) lightweight and f) not a polo.

Ready........

Peter Millar, KJUS, Holderness (a poly-pique I believe) are some off the top of my head.

Just looked up PM and they have only 1 out of 74 polos in long sleeve but that is Poly. Thanks!

They offer a poly LS in their Crown Sport in solid Blk, Nvy, White as a year round essential...they also add a color or two fashion colors  + a stripe option here & there with every seasonal drop.

I’m gonna go out in a limb here and mention a brand that a lot of people don’t like.  However, their button-downs are absolutely awesome and definitely golf-able in them.  Also they make button down short sleeves for summer so if you’re sick of polo’s, you’re good all year around.

Have you looked at lululemon. They have long sleeve shirts, which are poly fabric. I have no idea how well they would work as golf shirts, but I’d suggest checking them out. Another alternative might be Rhone.

 I will second the Columbia brand shirts. I have several they are good in the summer and good in cold weather with a base layer. and you can roll up the sleeves when needed

I picked up a shirt from Amazon. 361 brand (I think). It might be what you want. Lots of colors available. 
 

lululemon also has a long sleeve polo (most of the time). I find it runs a size small based on other brands.

An alternative to Columbia is Orvis. I play in a couple of their SS button downs and they work great. I dig the William Murray line as well.
