Courses between Tampa and Orlando Fl.

Recommended Posts

Will be travelling to Orlando area in mid March, and a golf buddy will be travelling to Tampa area at the same time.  We're looking to hook up at a course between the two cities.  Any suggestions?  Obviously it may not be right in the middle of the two, but something that would require some travel for each of us would be preferred.

Streamsong comes at a hefty price.  It should be noted that you have to pay for your caddie and they aren't cheap to pay for.  It's also not really between Tampa and Orlando, it's basically southeast from Tampa.  Like somebody else said..it's in the middle of nowhere and there's no quick way to get there.

Eaglebrooke is a great layout once you get past the first couple of holes.  Back nine layout is superb.  Usually at a great price as well.

Big Cypress is in Lakeland and worth it if you can get on.  Problem is that they often don't open it to the public because it's a private 55+ community.  However, they may have a tee time on GolfNow.

I don't know how the conditions are.  Front nine is nothing to brag about, back nine is pretty solid.  I would guess there may be better options for the price.  Southern Dunes is great, but it's really more Orlando than in between Orlando and Tampa.  Same with ChampionsGate, but you want to play ChampionsGate CC, *not* ChampionsGate Resort.  Celebration is in the same boat as ChampionsGate and Southern Dunes.

Add another vote for Eaglebrooke. I think it’s an underrated layout, with only a couple mediocre holes. The price is solid, and the backnine feels like a mini Bay Hill.

Southern Dunes is another good suggestion. Streamsong is the type of place you plan a trip around, not bounce over for an 18.

I had to go on business to Lakeland, FL several years ago. I don't remember the names but there were several very nice courses in the immediate area.  Probably a good compromise between Tampa and Orlando.

Edit: After reviewing this thread it was Eaglebrook I was at. Very nice.  One thing is for sure - naming the city Lakeland is accurate.  Water everywhere including the courses (bring lots of balls).

Cleveland Heights is a nice afternoon walk. William Flynn old school course though a couple holes are missing due to house constructions but it's an easy walk. Can ask the pro shop to circle the Flynn holes and follow it.  Enjoy a beer and grill cheese sandwich after the walk is over. Florida weather is amazing right now.

I almost played Cleveland Heights today, but got a last minute deal at Disney Magnolia. Cleveland Heights has been on my radar for awhile, but just haven't had a chance. They have three nines. Are there two "preferred" nines?

World Woods/Brooksville and Lake Jovita aren't between Orlando and Tampa, but here are links to photo tours of those courses in case you are considering them. They are nice and well priced, just not conveniently located to where the OP had inquired about.

L.A.B. Golf is choosing ten GolfWRX members to receive their MEZZ.1 putter early and put their brand new product to the test before reporting back to the community about what they see. The selected testers will be one of the first to experience the MEZZ.1 from L.A.B. It includes 10 weights (eight on the bottom, two on the sides) that allow us to individually build each putter to a golfer’s exact specifications.

      How To Apply
In a post below, answer the following questions.

      1. City, State?

      3. What is your current putter?
      4. Have you ever used a L.A.B. Golf putter?
      5. Why do you want to review the MEAZZ.1 putter?
      6. Do you agree to participate in an ongoing testing thread, posting reviews and photos?

That's it! @labgolf and GolfWRX will choose the testers in about 2 weeks! This testing event is for good-standing members in the USA only!
