Man, this thread is basically my "suprised by someone's game" post.

Haha, but our expetations for Stu's appearance have always been high!

More like that guy who started a thread about liking the second 18 at his course because it kept the jeans, t shirts, cigarettes, riff raff and "those kind of people" out of his way when he wanted to go play, lol.  "Sorry Mr. Tour Winner Shoots 59 - you are on the Dregs Course today."

He looks far from a “homeless” person.

His appearance gives an impression that he doesn’t care about being in that seat. His uninterested delivery and mundane small talk while in a news desk atmosphere confirms as much. Appleby lives in Florida, there had to be a compelling reason for him to fly to Connecticut for the week and spend 4 days on air. It couldn’t have been money, I can’t imagine he’s picking up more than $15-$20k for the week. Is he wanting to move to tv full time?  If so any reasonable person would think that if he’s going to show up looking very atypical that he needs to be sharp - articulate, insightful, smooth and maybe even a bit funny or at least charismatic. But he’s not any of those things. His presentation is dry, his verbal contributions are inane and his presence borders on grating. One could easily write this off as being new to the role and to give him a chance, but his appearance gives the impression that he is uninterested in that.

For a simpler summary - “Hey Stuart, you are going to be on tv analyzing 4 days of PGA Tour golf. You said you haven’t prepared at all, have no compelling tales of the event, have never done tv before and haven’t a clue as to how you will fill the airtime aside from a ridiculous scheme to play in the snow wearing a tank top. Do you think maybe you could shave, wash your hair and at least give the impression that you give a sh—?”

Nah mate.....

His appearance looks just fine. Nothing wrong with it. As far as the substance of what he discussed, and how he interacted, don’t care as I didn’t listen to the video. I’m talking strictly about looking like a “homeless” person. He doesn’t.

He's worked GC for years.

And he's pretty thoughtful and articulate.  He seems to make his points without blathering on and on, sometimes he has to wait ten minutes for Rich to stop telling him what the question and the answer is, however.

Good insights, and always comes off as someone who has been there and has interesting perspectives.

All IMO, one thing it's easy to disagree about is on air golf talent!

When I made my post on this subject (which has been closed) I didn't say anything about how Appleby looked, other than I just didn't recognize him, but I knew the voice.  Had to take me a while to put the two together.  He can look anyway he wants to, but this new look does make him look a lot older than he is (IMHO).

No, but we should cancel Appleby because he looks like Kevin Sorbo apparently.

I wonder what Sorbo thinks of cancel culture...

Exactly. Whining about being cancelled while wanting to cancel people because they don’t conform to what a “normal” look is. Lol the irony

Man I had no idea he’s been on air before. I don’t religiously watch the golf channel, but I watch some every week and I don’t recall him being on before. If his previous performances were anything like this I’m surprised he was brought back. Wait, no I’m not.

I don’t really care about his appearance, it’s just an easy asset to pick apart when the substance of the rest of the package is so very much lacking. If he were good in the role his appearance wouldn’t support much more than a comment or two in the Pebble Beach tournament thread. Instead there are (or were) at least 3 separate topics on the board dedicated to it and it’s also mentioned in a few other threads.

It's the Covid look.  I'm rockin' too.  Bunch of old farts complaining.

Yep, I detest sitting in a barbers chair wearing a face diaper. Haven’t been in about 4 months.  I’m normally a every 5 weeks kinda guy, but it’s the new normal right?  Mrs.. dlygrisse says she doesn’t care, she doesn’t get out much anymore, and the job I kinda have doesn’t care as it’s  business casual. That being said I’m starting to feel a bit scruffy, and if I was on live TV I’d clean up a bit. ....and some would consider me an old fart.

I’ll say this, I’d rather look like Stuart than whatever Brandel has on his head. He’s either trying to recreate a helmet with all the hairspray or he thinks a cow pie on the head is a good look.

Since last March I've let the folks go COVID casual at work and on Fridays it's Katy bar the door! This reminds me I needed a haircut two weeks ago!

My wife says she likes me scruffy (you know there's a trap in there somewhere) - but she's a woman of many sides - my Valentine's Day card?  A Dachshund puppy on the front and inside - "Who doesn't like a little wiener on Valentine's Day!" - I told her I'm still working out what to make of that, hahaha.

And there was this:

"Appleby lives in Florida, there had to be a compelling reason for him to fly to Connecticut for the week and spend 4 days on air. It couldn’t have been money, I can’t imagine he’s picking up more than $15-$20k for the week."

Boys, let me assure you that the cheap, penurious, cost-cutting, bottom-line-only beancounters at NBC and Golf Channel wouldn't shell out that kind of cash for a Pre-Game roundtable featuring Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan and Bobby Jones.  Appleby was flown up and put in that chair for peanuts, meaning scale.  For his part, he's there merely for the "exposure" he gets from a few days of TV time.  Exposure is right: all that's missing is a dark alley and a raincoat.

Did someone really post that?! I only play courses with that exact demographic. Makes me feel so fancy.

3/4 the people in this thread probably have male pattern baldness and can’t grow anything out but are slamming this guy

Put me in the 1/4 group! I’m way better looking than Apples.

Seriously. In theory it doesn’t make sense to tease someone, or put someone down that is “superior” to you in the area of said put down. In the real world (esp the internet) it just doesn’t work that way though 🤷🏼‍♂️

I like getting haircut!

My place in NYC closed and I took a chance with a local place in the Burbs where my folks still live.

Ecuadorian  girl, very nice, meticulous and does the straight razor routine on the back of my neck.

20 bucks! Guy in NYC was charging me 40. I give this girl a 10$ tip and I’m still ahead of the game ; )
