Nice new book on golf in England!

I like to have a book in hand rather than popping here and there on the internet to read and think about golf when I can get one.  I've been looking for a couple of years off and on for a good and current book on golf in England, in particular (have some good ones on golf in Ireland and Scotland).  Then a couple of months ago I found out this one was coming out and pre-ordered (it's available on Kindle as well, but I wanted the "book").  It took forever to get here (I assume publishing delays and shipping for whatever reason from across the pond) and yesterday it arrived!

 

I've only skimmed it but there is a lot of interesting background info in there about many of the courses.  It seems like more of the so-called "top courses" vs. what I'd maybe think of as "hidden gems" (and would love for someone to publish a book about those, and do a lot of reading on this forum about all these other courses out there), but there are many courses covered I have heard and read about that I want to play someday and a few since reading a bit in the book that I want to play now I've read about them -- i.e. St. Enodoc - looks awesome!

 

Anyway, if you like actual books and want an interesting guide to peruse in the dead of winter, this may fit the bill.

Is this heavy on pictures? It's about half the price on Kindle, but doesn't really work if it has lots of pictures in it.

Yes, lots of pics.

 

And sorry Kindle doesn't work for you that way.  I've got quite a few things on Kindle I've picked up cheap, including some serious picture heavy cookbooks, travel things, golf stuff, but never had an issue with that on my MacBook.

I played it two years and can’t see which bit of the course that would be, the 16th green? But thought it ran closer to the sea..

Short review - got to spend some quality time with it this morning. The quality of the writing is really good, background info on the 33 featured courses is really interesting. Not all the featured courses are expensive, but definitely most are well known.  For each of the featured courses there are at least 3 and sometimes more courses nearby with short descriptions, info about rates (and a wide variety of rates), website/email/phone information.  My only regret because of the quality of the photography is that it isn't a full fledged coffee table size, but as a paperback its handy and I can look over it and see the TV when I'm lying on the sofa and reading.  So a bit over 100 courses covered, but as the author notes with over 2000 total, kind of hard to pick.  For someone looking to get over to that part of the UK in the future, after forays to Scotland, it's a fun read.

Ill be ordering a copy of this, if nothing else for some reading material and as a nice coffee table piece.

Found this old one in hardback online. Not a course guide, just lots of great photos, so a coffee table type book and VERY limited in courses but great history of the ones in there and incredible pics.

Yeah - I read on my phone. I got the hard copy of the book. A wise decision! Book is great and has a decent range from around the country too.
