Anyone familiar with Cleveland CG1 Tour irons?

I just picked up a cool looking set of Cleveland CG1 Tour irons. I love the look and the price was worth the experiment but I know nothing about these and there’s very little info I can find. I know a few tour guys used to game them around 2011. Anyone have some insight into how they perform?

I don't know much about them other than a mate used to have a set he loved and that they look awesome. Assume they were cast but maybe the 'CMM' material? If so they are pretty brittle so don't try to bend them but feel wise they will be great.

As far as I can remember these were cast but still felt great. Only got to hit them a couple of times back in the day but I always enjoyed hitting them

If the best players in the world game them then they perform.  

 

Clubs are only as good as the player that is using them.

You still using those FG59s? I had a set of the Edwin Watts version and absolutely loved them, should have never sold the set.

I certainly am. I have gone through a few sets of blades but nothing can replace the FG59‘s. I just hit them better. I have no idea why!

Next contender might be the Callaway APEX MB's

I just noticed a second hand set of these in a store today, and gave them a whack. They look great, and I like the combo spilt at the 6i/5i slot.

Hitting off a mat into a net, I found I preferred the short irons, but the 4i didn't feel very solid. I didn't hit the 5i, and if I do buy the set I probably wouldn't play the 4i anyway, but it was a bit odd.

Otherwise, a nice looking set, both as eye-candy and at address.

Interesting! What was odd about the 4 iron? Just feel? How did it look at address?

Address was fine. The set blends really well. It was just that it did not feel as solid as the shorter irons I was hitting. Some of that might be down to indoor acoustics. I hit a number of 4-irons in the same bay: a Honma TW727 CB 4i (think it was the TW727V), Rose Proto 4i, TW727M 4i, some boutique JDM CDC milled blade 4i (really nice!), and a Mizuno JPX Tour 4i of some sort (850??), but they all felt ok and sounded OK. That Cleveland 4i was just not my cup of tea.

But, and this is possibly important, I do think the lie was significantly too flat for me. That will probably have an affect impact, especially with an elite ball-striker such as myself....🤣
