New golf ball?

Just watched the TXG review of the new TP5 line up on youtube. Towards the end they were talking about how the old TP5X was a lot like the Pro v1x left dash, but not anymore since they increased spin with new 2021 version. They mentioned that a major manufacturer is soon putting out a ball like the left dash ball from Titleist, and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything like that? Obviously it won't be from TMade or Titleist, so that leaves Callaway, Bridgestone, and Srixon in terms of major ball manufacturers (did I miss anyone?). Any speculation?

this screams Bridgestone, specifically, the Bryson ball.

Bridgestone has a two year release cycle I believe, so my money wouldn't be on them.  Unless they are doing a specific Bryson ball which I would not think they would.  Srixon has their redone models out now, no clue on Callaway as I have never liked any of their golf balls.

Well it sounds like an add ball to a line up, not a tweak to an existing ball, so it could still be Bridgestone. It could be Callaway too, especially since they don't really have a firmer ball offering. I agree on Callaway golf balls, don't like the performance and especially don't trust them after what came out about their poor quality control, likely will never buy balls from them.

The only thing I heard coming out new from Bridgestone was the e12 Contact which is not in the same category as the ProVI.

Srixon is releasing a 2021 version of the  Z Star XV, a premium, higher compression, supposedly slighter longer ball than its flagship, the Z Star.  Maybe this is the ball you heard about?

No, the Z star line has already been released, and this would be a new ball, not an existing I believe.

That's a smidge weak argument. Callaway and "poor quality control". You see the new PROv1x / V1 having off center cores, prior renditions of TP5/X with bad durability on covers, prior gen TP5 / X yellow having bad covers. I can't say anything bad about Bridgestone. MTB / X occasionally have a raised seam but that was a long time ago. Srixons cracking a the seam.

If you wanna find dirt, you can find dirt.

New TP5 / X look great. Looking forward to trying them out.

As far as speculating the next "monster ball" as mentioned in TXG. Only time will tell. I am thinking Callaway or Bridgestone. Both have mentioned a longer ball in the work with new guys.

Off center balls were found in higher percentages in Callaway than other balls, obviously every company is going to have the off centered balls, but Callaway had a real issue.

As a Left Dash player I’m interested in what they hinted at coming out. A bit disappointed to see the TP5x move to the more spinny side. I also liked the fact that they hinted at a third TP5 ball with the new aerodynamics along with lower spin. I think that was more wishful thinking than fact though.

Yeah I believe that 3rd TP5 ball was just pure speculation, not inside information. I'm disappointed as well with the changes to the TP5X, they were a lot like the left dash and about $5 cheaper and easier to get ahold of.

Was anyone else hoping at the end of that video they would simply throw in the left dash and even avx into that test rather than briefing mentioning it in passing?

They've done the AVX vs left dash test before if you haven't seen it, it's from maybe a little under a year ago, not quite sure, but it would be interesting to see that side by side with the new TP5 line.

You know that, how? Please don't take that MGS study at face value.

I've seen multiple videos where people cut open a full dozen, and find multiple off center balls. You're likely going to find one off centered ball in any dozen, but Callaway obviously had a glaring issue, they wouldn't invest $100 million into quality control if there was no issue. Don't like their balls in the first place anyways, there's a reason over half of their tour pros use an off the shelf firmer variation.

I saw the MGS report, and to be honest it didn't change the fact I wasn't going to play Callaway balls.  I was a tester for WRX for the Chrome Soft in 2018 I think it was, and on and around the green I didn't see any huge issues (at the time I was playing the Srixon and Snell's) I did see a major issue with iron distance and control.  Driver distances are very difficult to judge unless you have a ton of balls to hit over quite a few rounds or are hitting a ton with a trackman on a range.  However iron shots are a lot easier to tell when you are having issues with distance/dispersion/spin/wind stability with just playing a couple of rounds.  The Callaway was horrible in the wind, I personally think the Bridgestone and Srixon are the best performing wind balls out there, the spin was weird and not easy to judge like it was with the Snell or the Srixon.  Distance was shorter with the callaway ball anywhere from 4 to 9 yards depending upon the club, I had the X and regular softs to test and neither were very good with the irons.

Has Callaway fixed that?  Probably, they make a lot of money and they have a lot of resources tied up in trying to solidify their hold on the #2 ball position in sales.  It would be ludicrous to think they wouldn't.  However, I find the Snell and Srixon to perform as good as I could want out of a ball and they are both cheaper than I have ever seen a Callaway so why would I try them?  If Snell and Srixon balls became more expensive I would probably play Bridgestone as I think they have and have had the best performing golf ball for me for the last 12+ years.

It may be the Chrome Soft X.  I got a box recently and it's the lowest spinning premium ball besides the AVX for me.
