Tensei AV Raw TX Flex Shafts Now a No-Upcharge Offering from Titleist?!

Recommended Posts

I was taking a look at the new TSi4 on Titleist’s website yesterday and saw that the stock no upcharge shaft offerings includes a TX flex Tensei AV Raw White (a $350 shaft). I found this interesting, as the TX flex wasn’t even included as an upcharge option when the TSi2/3 were rolled out. At the time, this was a new shaft from Mitsubishi that retailed at $250 for Stiff and X-Stiff options, while the TX went for $350, due to added materials (boron tip for added stability).

When I went to customize, the Tensei AV Raw White has Stiff, X-Stiff and “Tour X 2.0” options. I can only help but ask, is Titleist offering the new Mitsubishi Tensei AV Raw White Prototype 2.0 as a no upcharge option in all clubs now?

As one who pre-ordered the TSi3 with a no upcharge offering AV Raw (only available in stiff and X-stiff at the time) and purchased the 75TX from Fairway Jockey, I can’t help but be disappointed if it’s a no upcharge option just 3 months later.

Did anyone else catch this on their site and can we confirm if this is the prototype 2.0 or not?

In the beginning they actually did have the TX listed for the White and Blue.  I ordered the Blue TX and my pro was told from the beginning ( I ordered the first week they could be pre-ordered ) that it wouldn't ship until Jan 2021.  My pro inquired about three weeks ago when it would ship and he was told the White would ship at the end of Feb and the Blue wouldn't be available to ship until the end of March.  I am not certain if it is the 2.0 or not.

I spoke with Titleist, and it IS the 2.0 Proto version of the AV White. On the MCA website, it says the 2.0 is replacing the original in the TX flex, so it makes sense. As for it being a no upcharge option, its pretty wild, but true.

Possibly the 2.0 works without the extra boron in the tip, so its the same prize? Just speculation, so only a guess fwiw

Its not THAT huge of an upcharge in the aftermarket to go from X to TX, and I have to imagine that is dwindled down significantly with the bulk Titleist would purchase. The last few years, it seems Titleist has taken a back seat in market share to Taylormade and Callaway when it comes to drivers. Now, they have a killer line up AND can offer the TX version as stock? Seems like a great way to win back the higher end players from high school, college, etc. for a minimal bump in cost. Also seems like a win for MCA to get the premium version of their flagship shaft out amidst the Ventus parade.

Wow. Awesome to hear (not so much for me) that they're able to get the TX Flex 2.0 Proto into TSi's at no upcharge. According to what I've read about the Proto 2.0, it's Mitsubishi's lower torque version to compete with the Ventus Black.

According to @RyanBarathWRX, Titleist doesn't offer "watered down" or "made for" shafts and everything they offer is the legit shaft and the same that is offered directly from the shaft manufacturers (Mitsubishi, Fuji, etc.). Considering that is the case, the Proto 2.0 TX must have the boron tip, as they wouldn't make a non-boron version dressed up as the "real deal" just for Titleist to offer at $0 upcharge.

I guess that makes sense. I did notice the TX listed when they first rolled out. When I learned that the TX had the boron tip and other flexes did not from Mitsubishi, I immediately got on the phone with Titleist to inquire if they were actually offering the shaft. Someone from Customer Service told me that it was a mistake in the shaft options that they had the TX flex listed and mentioned that wasn't immediately available and would only be at some point in the future.

Considering Mitsubishi puts a $100 premium on the TX flex, I'm sure it was agreed that Titleist could only offer S and X flex off the bat and roll the TX flex out at a later point. I guess it worked out for Mitsubishi, because suckers like myself went out and purchased the TX flex in addition to the X flex that came as a $0 upcharge option in the TSi.

That makes it a pretty damn good deal if AV raw is a shaft that works for you. Have to keep in mind for the fairways. AV Raw Blue 75 TX would be nice.

Awesome deal. Last I checked Blue isn’t available in the 85 gram weight category... I just got the CK Pro Blue 80TX for my TS2 fairway.

Glad to hear that! I have to get the adapter swapped and get it on trackman. I had the Diamana D+ 80X in it before and it was a rocket launcher. Hopefully the Tensei Blue has some more launch and spin to make it more practical for me! I’ll be excited to get it on trackman next week and maybe on the course in 2 months... a lot of snow in New England.

Any idea if the TX is a no uncharge option to order with the TSi3? Or is it just offered with the TSi4? Not seeing the TX listed on the TSi3 page on Titleist's website

*Edit* Nevermind, just saw that you're able to build clubs on their website now and it looks like its an option.*

I had a D+80tx  in mine before , and to me the tensei does launch higher , but best of all it’s tighter.  The d+ was just a little loose.

I just ordered a driver with the white 65 2.0 TX. For those that have received theirs, does it say proto on it or just 2.0? Really makes no difference but I am curious if these shafts are identical to the prototype version or the update will remove that language.  Thanks!

It’s kind of crazy you can get the fairway wood+shaft for basically less than the price of just the shaft. Wish I would’ve been paying attention to this a week ago and not bought just the shaft..

Considering most here think they can handle a TX, Titleist just said, “come on down WRXers, we have plenty”

Yeah. It’ll be interesting to see how this affects some of the builders who primarily focus on aftermarket shaft builds. How do you compete with a $350 shaft that Titleist is selling at $0 upcharge.

As a side note, you can buy stock Titleist shaft offerings without heads at golfusamanhattan.com. $0 upcharge offerings are usually $175, the AV Raw White Proto 2.0 TX included.

The AV Raw stuff was always a made for shaft with the TX flex being slightly higher end.  Tensei 1K line is the real next gen Tensei line.

I hit the AV Raw stuff and coming from a Tensei Pro White i was underwhelmed big time.  Now with the Tensei 1k out and reviews it all makes sense.  Im a big Mitsu fan but their shaft lines are getting hard to follow.

According to some reputable folks on the forums, Titleist is not using “made for” shafts and everything they offer is real deal. The AV Proto 2.0 has sub 3 torque and many consider it Mitsubishi’s competitor with the Ventus. I like the AV Raw White TX and came from the Pro Whire TX. I found the raw white to give me better numbers and consistency.

I agree with the product lines, though. Tensei line was always hard to tell what is real deal and not, what has boron tip, etc. Fuji keeps it simple - velo or non-velo.

Thanks for the heads up. Depending on how the 85TX 2.0 experiment goes in 3 wood I may be buying a second for 5 wood.

No problem. I wish they offered the blue in 85. They stop at 75 for some reason, even though mitsu offers it. I just bought the pro blue to put into my 3 wood.

Let me know when you receive yours, as I’ll be curious to know. If you order the Proto 2.0 in the aftermarket, the “Prototype 2.0” is on the graphics below the weight and flex. spacer.png

Exactly, wondering if anyone has received one yet and can confirm if it looks like this or otherwise?
