College Baseball - Regionals and Beyond!

Im not 100% confident that all schools in that situation do it, but there is a reason why parents/student athletes may meet with a financial advisor/financial services at their campus visit to a private school that may not be as prevalent in public institutions.  Private institutions declaring "need" based scholarships are not under the same scrutiny.  When is the last time Vandy listed their head FB or BB coach's exact salary?  Notice the lines that are blank on this list:  https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/

Its the same way that some lottery driven tuition states can spend higher percentage of scholarships on out of state kids.  Example:  Univ of Fl or Univ of GA - students from those states (with qualifying standards) are given tuition scholarships as part of the state's lottery agreement.  As such, UF baseball does not need to spend that % of a scholarship on that student and can give a recruit from Alabama a higher percentage (which attracts more players to those schools).  Hypothetical: So, a high level recruit from Jacksonville, FL goes to UF at 100% scholarship to him, but may not count towards the 11.7 full equivalents for D1 baseball, or would count only the minimum 25% scholarship if the state and leadership scholarships did not cover books/fees, etc. to that number.  11.7 distributed over 25-30 players goes VERY quickly, and you think someone pays their way at a school charging $50k + tuition per year to sit on the bench for 2 years to move into the rotation left by a couple of top round picks??  Some families can, but are you sure all of the players on that team can?

Hey, thanks for the response. And yes, I can see what you are saying here.

I don't think any institution is willingly putting their head coach's salary out for public scrutiny, but of course, state funded institutions are forced to do so by law. Private schools don't have too. I always find it funny (and rather nauseating) that the highest paid state employee in virtually every state in the country is the leading university's head football coach.

And yeah, there is obviously a lot of nuance and behind the scenes dealing that I am not privy to concerning how baseball "gets around" the scholarship limitations. All I can comment upon is what I saw in the classroom and through my interactions with student athletes. In the end, I'm sure every player's and every institution's experience is slightly different.

I will stand by my assertion, however, that the baseball players I taught at an unnamed SEC university were the best students of any major-sport-male-athlete I taught. Basketball? Forget it. Football? Well, I never got the chance to teach any of them, because they had special sections with instructors and TA's out the wazoo. Legit professors never got close to them.

All said and done, I'm sure we can both agree that the "Student-Athlete" moniker is a farce (and a half).

The "non-revenue" sports typically have the best students who are also varsity athletes....  Ive been at 2 SEC schools, a mid major, and a high level D2...   The higher number of scholarships relative to players on the team is too often inverse to the academic/non sport priorities of the athlete.   There are, of course, many exceptions, as ive worked with a Rhodes Scholar candidate in a high-revenue sport...

I think you have a fair amount getting academic scholarships as well at Vandy.  Plus the education there sells itself if you have the money to foot the tuition bill.

And to the topic at hand, they better find them some more pitching other than just Leiter and Rocker.  We will see I guess.

Talking heads are split on whether UT loses Vitello.  Front runner is LSU apparently.

MSU is a fun/scrappy team to watch.

Vandy was given a gift with the COVID issue with NC State.  That was tough to watch for NC State and feel bad for them.  They had the momentum and burgeoning talent to actually win this thing.  State wins easy tonight, Rocker vs Bednar on short rest tomorrow for a good one.

Having aforementioned that, I'd like to recognize additional concerning this advantage you're spoken communication personal faculties have over state institutions. I've ne'er worked on it facet of a university athletic department before. I've solely educated and tutored. Honestly I never needed to own something to try and do with the money side of things. i prefer my integrity and do my best to keep up it. 😀https://essayup.com/
