How many strokes have you shaved using game improvement irons?

I’m in the camp of figuring out I shoot about the same with a blade vs a cavity back with some help. In fact, I found I had the best iron game for me when I played blades and wasn’t as accomplished of a ball striker. When you get punished for mishits, you seem to naturally find the center of the club more often if you have some athletic ability.

Completely agree. If a 6 iron head weight 263g despite whether it’s a shovel or a blade, you’re going to have more meat behind the strike with a smaller club. @bladehunter’s argument of frying pan vs hammer. Both will drive a nail - one is a lot better at it. More room to explore the face you’ll probably do it. Not to mention shaft droop from toe weighting, increased offset, and a sole that gets into the way of you arriving in a favourable downward motion into the ball.

The last new set of clubs I was fitted for were the TM R7 TP’s back in 2006.  I believe they were considered a “players” cavity back.  Of course, I was younger/stronger person. Between then and now,  I have considered new purchases. However, After spending numerous hours hitting shiny, new product, I always feel that I already have the irons I need to be successful.  Ultimately it was a re-shafting that has given me a renewed confidence and more success. Now, if only I could go back and get the driver that I bought new around the same time.  I think I will keep the $1000 in MY POCKET!

It’s not my opinion that a cavity will be more forgiving than a blade. I’ve been in the golf club business for almost 40 years. Ask Mike Nicolette, John Hoeflich, John K Solhiem, Tomo Bystedt, David Glod, or Tom Wishon and they will all tell you the same. Now, how much that can help improve ones game is very hard to quantify.

Its always interesting  looking at the actual MOI measurements of various designs.  In many cases, the differences are much less than one might think.
