NorCal putter first hand experience and pic of the work done

Recommended Posts

There are some conflicting experiences posted by fellow members here so I would like to share my own first hand experience.

Late last year, my Betti gamer was rusting and it was losing its attraction so I was looking for a putter restoration service.

Saw some interesting picture on IG by NorCal putter so I sent my putter to NorCal to work on it.

It said from the beginning, won't be updating as much and would take longer time due to COVID.

After 8 weeks (although it was longer than I expected and would like.... it is what it is) the putter came back with a great work. The putter grip was done as on the house and excellent follow up.

I am impressed and I just sent in another putter (same head type jut heavier) for a back up.

I will report back on my 2nd putter work once it is completed and arrives. So far the 1st one is awesome and it is one and only.

More to follow...

Which finish did you decide on?  And how is it holding up with play now?

Happy to read that you have had a positive experience. I bet that finish is filled with different hues depending on the lighting. Looks stellar.

I forgot what it was. I am very happy and holding up well.

I sent another one for flat black.

Yes, almost collection item level. It's been so great, I sent another putter for refinish and came back in 8 weeks as promised.

I just sent my TP Mills Heritage flow neck putter to NorCal Putters for the Rusty putter (satin) treatment.  I received a confirmation email about 10 days ago that the putter has been received.  I will post pictures when the putter gets back.  I wanted a finish change because the reflection of this putter is a bit too much on sunny days (which we get a lot here in Colorado).  Here is the before pictures.  Paint fill will be done in the same manner as the original except the putter man on the sole.  He will be yellow holding a black putter.

I’ve never read about a conflicting experience with NorCal putters ever.  I’d be interested in hearing about those.  I just received my first putter back from him and the work was impeccable.  I follow him on Instagram and unless he is is only posting the good ones, I’ve never seen any putter that didn’t look incredible.  I’m about to send him another one.

I have and some members here weren't too excited about NorCal putter's service.

I can only speak from my experiences.... two out of two transactions were 10 out of 10.

Seems like his early work had not so happy customers. I think he is on top of his game now. I also have 2 great restorations by him 2018,2019 when I had work sent to him

I just got my TP Mills Heritage back in the Rusty finish.  The finish is really interesting, definitely rusty.  My putter weighs in at 334 g and I prefer a heavier putter.  I had added lead tape on the sole and planned on doing so again.  However, the finish doesn't allow the lead tape adhere to the putter.  I had to sand off the finish on the sole to add the lead tape but the finish remains on the rest of the putter.  Here are pictures of the putter (pre sole sanding).

The rusty look is very nice too, i find that I generally tire of looking at it. I've had s few rusty putters but always end up getting them refinished.  Personally, I loved the original finish on your mills left, but to each their own.  Just game it hard and don't look back.

I think your putter looks great.  The darker color actually looks better in my opinion.  Not sure why you would need "putter butter?"  I would assume with the PVD finish you wouldn't have to worry about rusting.

^ I also think it looks fantastic slightly darker... and he seems to have no issue with the work they did, rather the recommendation of product to use on it. Then says "avoid them" maybe he meant avoid their recommendations, because the work they did on the putter looks great to me.

And I have no horse in this race, never sent anything to them or care either way. 🤷‍♂️

I also gotta say I think this finish looks fantastic.  It would definitely stand out.  My gamer is a carbon steel head with a blue oil can finish and I love it.  Very easy to see without a strong reflection on a sunny date.

Two questions:  First, why did you put putter butter on it?  Isn't it a PVD or DLC finish? If so it requires no maintenance other than a good wash from time to time.  Second, I'm not sure what's wrong with the finish, what don't you like?  Any putter that has a blue or oil can finish will look different when you put some sort of protective oil or other on it.

I also am in the camp that likes the darker finish on the Scotty above. Appears that NorCal’s work is exceptional.

I have used Putter Butter for the past two years on numerous putters of different metals and finishes. Just know that the application will not last forever. I typically reapply after a few outings in the morning dew. There is a wet, darker appearance initially that does disappear over time.

I had a great experience with Ray at East Coat Custom Putters. Sent in an old Piretti Teramo, and got the engravings on the cavity and sole removed.
