David Gilmore's solo in "Have a Cigar" gets lost in the shuffle, but it's solid. Solo at 3:19.

I've digested a lot of this. I'd be willing to re-evaluate my 3

Comfortably Numb stays #1 forever. Again, this is not debatable

Prince in 2004 at the hall of fame --Agreed. That can be up there.

Tunnel of Love Outtro ---Yup, love it.

Those can maybe be #2 and #3

I still love Fade To Black and the Beatles FWIW. I mean i guess putting Prince's 2004 Gem  up there re-enforces that. It's the same song after all

Beat me to it.  I love guitar and this is my vote.  I don’t know why.  But prince is currently my absolute favorite guitarist.  He can make it talk better than Peter framptom on talk box.    It feeds my soul to hear it. And i  could nAme 100 id label #2 or in the running. This is high high quality h20. 😂  What ices the cake is that it’s said that he didn’t show to rehearse for this.  The band heard none of it before that moment.  They talked it over before. They wanted the first guy to do both solos.  Prince said he’d do the last  and just showed up.  Whatever came out came out. good read on it below.  The guitar toss at the end. Nobody knows where it went. Lol.

As I got into reading this topic -- don't know if anyone posted this, but I came across a live version of Comfortably Numb with David Gilmour in Pompeii.  Stretches that second solo out to over 4 minutes:

That is such a great version. The drummer is having such a good time! His name is Steve DiStanislao and Gilmour stole him from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and (all of the various combos of them), he played with Kenny Loggins, Joe Walsh. He's a very humble and down to earth guy. He played with David Crosby and Graham Nash for years and Gilmour came to one of their concerts in Europe and liked what he heard. He got a hold of him a few years later for the tour shown in the video.

To quote Joe Satriani, Jimmy Hendrix's Voodoo Child is "the greatest piece of electric guitar work ever recorded. In fact, the whole song could be considered the holy grail of guitar expression and technique. It is a beacon of humanity."

That was one of the first things I noticed, too -- that drummer looks like he's having the time of his life.  It's like he knows how lucky he is to be a part of that show, and he's just soaking up every second of it.

Had this cassette when it debuted and would FF this song to around 2:12 just to hear Carlos' guitar solo.  Probably not the greatest of all time but I think you'll agree it jams.  Was fortunate to see them on this tour in the Spring of 1981.

PINK FLOYD HAVE A CIGAR - YouTube

Gilmour's work is without a doubt my favorite, and when I used to play he was my #1 inspiration. I must have spend the better part of 5 years rebuilding my Strat and adjusting my setup to even catch a second's time of his tone. What I love most is how his tone evolved over the five marquee albums Pink Floyd released in the 70's.

Meddle ('71)- experimental, melodic, carries the whole B-side on "Echoes" and mixes in some really gritty slide work on "One of These Days."

DSOTM ('73)- really needs no description, the solos on this album were some of the most iconic in rock history. "Time" stands out for me .

Wish You Were Here ('75)- My favorite Floyd album, and probably Gilmour's most complete work from front to back. His approach and tone in "Have a Cigar" was really a preview for all of his work on the next album

Animals ('77)- Anyone who hasn't listened to this one owes it to themselves. The solos on "Pigs" and "Dogs" elapse more time than some careers' worth of signature work from other guitarists.

The Wall ('79)- Comfortably Numb is the magnum opus, but "Young Lust," "Mother," and "Another Brick in the Wall" could all be held in high regard.

I don't hold much sentiment in celebrity lives, but it will be a sad day when I hear that Gilmour or John Williams pass on.

Alex Lifeson's short solo in 'The Spirit of Radio' (4:20) is pretty sweet. Love the wah wah peddle.

Ok legit question. If you do a little research online you’ll see quite a few industry people/“experts’ consider Page’s solo in Stairway to be one of the greatest, if not thee greatest, guitar solos ever. So why does it get so much pushback from some?

Same reason the solo at the end of freebird does.  It is too mainstream I guess. But both are pure pleasure to listen to.

This isn’t greatest ever. But being down the live music rabbit hole. I wanted to share.  Foo fighters live at wembley is just pure joy to listen to.   And everlong.  Have truer words ever been said ?  I don’t think so.     Watch till the end if  you want to see them go hard at it.

Wow.  I lived this one.  I remember this performance on SNL.  Like them or hate them. This performance is one of the cleanest when compared to the studio version I’ve ever heard.  It’s near flawless.  And Dave on the drums.  Good lord he’s punishing them.  I haven’t watch this since 92.  Till just now.  Talk about bringing back tastes and smells.  😇.  Wow.

ah hell. You need this one too!  In bloom live at Leeds.    I’m gone now. Lol

I figured that was it. To me that’s like getting pushback for saying Tiger and Jack were the greatest. “Ohhhh gawd, such a pedestrian mainstream answer”. Perhaps, but it’s true nonetheless! 🤷🏼‍♂️ Sarrrree 😂
