Over 15 years on Golf WRX, an inside look at a club junky's garage!

Hi all,

I'm moving next month, this weekend I started to clear out the golf "Stuff".  And I was really shocked by what I still had in the corners, cabinets, drawers, and trunks of the cars when it comes to high-end golf equipment.  It was like turning back the clock.  I've been on WRX for as long as anyone.  I have gone through the progression of golf equipment master all the way to certified golf collector/hoarder.  I must say, all of these items are gamers, my collection of putters is safe inside and will not be discussed in this session.  

 

First the bags- 6 in total- The Blue ping bag is my current gamer bag, nuf said. Two kids bags that hold A total of 13 of her clubs.  A MacKenzie walker with added legs by myself, holds well I'll divulge later.  Ogio Bag with goodies, and a Titleist walker that I got in trade on this website for something I had previously paid too much for I'm sureI

So the gamer bag is just that, pretty much my clubs that are locked in for the foreseeable future, mid-March.  The clubs that are safe in this lineup are the 9, PW and Lob Wedge, everything else is BST ready.  Its a solid set up worthy of bag of the week, but that's a different string.

 

Kid's bags, female, reason to get out of the house for a few hours and drop $40 with the cart girl.  Nah I like it but can't get in a money game with her, and I lose about 6 balls per nine.  I had to move some of my stuff in there for transportation. Whats in there today:  100% counterfeit scotty cameron headcover on top of my buddy's C&L custom putter that I rescued from the proshop he left.  Kid's clubs never cleaned, and a WRX Scottsdale ping putter, 003 that I've chopped down and for some reason lose to every putting game when we play, I let her win, sort of.  

 

 

 

 

 

On to the good stuff, the Ogio bag is the place holder bag, lots of space, but way too old to make it to the course.  It's where pullouts go to die.  What's in there right now?  I see two War Birds I got for $5 each.  Looks like random long irons, the adams A4 Tech, The RBZ with Alpina hybrid shaft, Another Adams A4, Mitsubishi Prototype Matte-Blue can't miss shaft, 200 Steel Tour 17 I grabbed for $30 and then stuck one of my HM4 Fujikuras in.  An Accra Tour Z hanging out in there.  So the RBZ makes it into the gamer bag, no lie I can fly that thing 80 yards.  Great for into the gail force winds.  In all honestly its solid.  The rest won't see the gamer bag anytime soon.   

 

 

Behind that bag is my MacKenzie walker with shaky legs I added.  I'm a diehard Miura guy.  I like everything about them.  These are ones that didn't make the cut, lots of long irons in here.  I'm awaiting some MC-401 to try out in place.  In here you will see the PP9003s that I love, both in straight neck and normal offset, CB-301/MC-501 backwards mixed set as I game the other half.  Randomness Miuras, all built to my specs.  

 

 

The titleist bag has some really cool clubs, besides long irons, fairway woods have a difficult time staying in the starting lineup.  I'm on A titleist kick right now.  TS3 are locked in 3/5 both get out to the course.  Trusty 915 in this bag, with TRTI46 shaft, one of the best of all times.  Driver backup shaft, Oban HB, wedges, not one but two PXG that I like to play.  A Scratch wedge!  what else, got that really high lofted PXG 28 deg with some old school Fuji tourspec for going over the trees right in front of you for 180 yard shots.  It really is a crazy ball flight but hey it can work.  A Graphite Design hybrid shaft I got in trade, and never tried out.  The second of my identical Scotty Cameron Special Newport 2.  Last week I had the 33",34", and 35" of the exact same putter, why I have no idea.  The 35" is now gone and I extended the 33" to 34" for who knows why.  Oh there is a driver in there, mostly because its not worth anything for me to sell it.  12 deg SLDR 430.  Still the longest driver I've ever hit.  Gamer is the Sim with Ventus Red VC, light years apart in forgiveness. 

 

  

 

Lastly is the workbench, and fortunately I found more cool stuff in the tool boxes I didn't picture (adams XT fairway wood heads, Cleveland wedge heads, grips and such)

 

On the bench you'll see a srixon 3 iron, no clue where that's from, some Miura forged Taylormade 300 tour heads my daughter was using.  Clamshell Adams and a 4060DF fairway wood.  In the buckets I have an Adams A4 forged Red Tom Watson model iron head, I think the rest are somewhere.  Club making stuff all over.  I'll have it better organized at the next house.  There is a bag of headcovers and jackets in the corner, along with the boxes that I covet.  More random stuff on the floor.  Thats about it.  I think our wives are right, we have too much golf equipment.

Good Lord, my OCD took quite a hit reading your post.  Best of luck in getting everything organized and moved to your new location...

Very cool.  Like you I joined in 2005 and recently went through a move.  Although I don’t have pictures, I do have a similar story in my basement.  A half dozen golf bags filled with drivers, 3 woods and driving irons from the past.  I “found” 4 sets of irons, a bag full of putters and at least two dozen wedges.  I slowly cleaned this stuff out before I moved but its safe to say my local Golf Galaxy knew me by name.  Every few weeks or so I would bring in a bundle of clubs for trade in credit to fund new projects.  I have now consolidated down to about 4 bags of clubs - I mean you have to have a full back up set of clubs and then a back up back up set right? 🙂

Looks like my garage with the Gladiator stuff!  Does that all stay with the house, or moving with you?  I sure hope I don’t have to move anytime soon!  In preparation for a move, you realize how much of a pack rat you have unintentionally become!

That 4060 can almost hang with the v-steel for ease of use. One of my all time faves

I have a storage room in my basement that a lot of stuff in it too. I have about 4 full bags of clubs now, 6-7 putters in there. A couple of home depot buckets full of golf balls, loose shafts etc. 

 

Not quite as impressive as that but i know where you're coming from...for sure

Ive been on WRX since 2007. Anyways I see alot of junk! I keep 2 bags and that's it. I do have a few kids bags because they outgrow their clubs quickly. I've never believed in hoarding useless items. What's the point. Let it go!

Putters can't be in the garage, please!  They need a special climate controlled location.  I think I have a pic somewhere.

Wow, a Scotty Cameron copper putter set! Nice collection.

 

I don't think I'll be moving anytime soon as I might find some old goodies too, deep inside my garage and attic. Ha!

My wife and I have been house shopping and I'm terrified of having to go through the golf stuff in my garage. I'm actually hoping we settle on a house with a 3 or 4 car garage so I can designate a "golf space" and not have to downsize much.

Awesome thread, thanks for sharing. Are the irons you showed just single irons or do you have full sets of each? I personally have some loose demo irons laying around along with multiple full sets. My garage pic (if I ever have a reason to take one) would be worthy of Pay Per View 😂

I have accrued both ways.  The bag full of Miuras has a lot more than shown in that pic.  I order Miura wedges often.  I try nearly everything they make.  Gap wedges are my main issue, I hit them a lot during a round, so it needs to perform.  They are hard to sell after the fact, so I just keep them

Because I don't want to go to the post office every moment of my life.  I see the point, but I do "need" a lot of sticks.  I play out of state, so that's two bags up there.  I bring friends so I keep a third there so they don't need to travel with a bag.  I do let all my buddies dip into my clubs, I build stuff for them all the time.  Just yesterday one said, "I'm hitting your old 3 wood better than anything I've tried."  I said because its a legend!  915fd 16.5 with MJ7 Graphite Design.  No cost to him.
