No Sub Zero in new Callaway drivers???

JermWRX

Recommended Posts

Checked out the new line of Epic drivers over the weekend. I noticed there’s no Sub Zero model. I guess the LS is like a Sub Zero, but it was kinda interesting not to see a head with the obvious forward weight like before. I didn’t get a chance to do a whole lot of hitting them, so I’ll have to go back. I’ve gamed the Rogue and Flash Sub Zero in the past and enjoyed them. Was looking forward to trying the new option. Anyone have the LS version? Do you think it’s the same as the previous sub zeros?

Pretty sure they're coming out with a Sub Zero model in April as a limited release.

Isn't the MAX LS supposed to be the Sub Zero?  It's neutral weighted and low spin from what I can see on the website.  I know a lot of their players are in the Triple Diamond head but the MAX LS is very forgiving and you put a HZRDUS or something along those lines in it and it's long and low spin.

From what I have seen, none of the new heads are as low spin as the sub zero models have been previously. The MAX LS is 'lower spin' not low spin (if that makes sense). Basically stating that its less spin than the Max. I think the Speed is supposed to be the lowest spinning head out the 3 and what the pros seem to be playing (albeit with a weight forward).

I actually like callaway but companies that hold back models i find really frustrating.

Previous Triple Diamonds weren't the lowest spinning heads from Callaway. Per the TXG tests, the Epic Speeds were pretty low spin. You could also put the heavier weight forward. According to most of the videos I've watched, most players found the SZ too low spin. The trend except with Cobra has been to add a touch of spin on most models.

Makes sense to me.

Seems to be more common now. Callaway did it last year with the B21, too. I’ve never noticed Titleist before. I’ve never owned a Titleist golf club

Realistically only a handful of people need the super low spin head, OEMs toggle back and forth between spin windows with every release. So they release the main heads first, hope to capture the gotta have it now guys, then get an additional sale later when they release the very low spin option

I found the EF SZ to be the lowest spinning driver I ever hit. Significantly less spin than the Epic SZ

Not necessarily.

Don't forget about the MANY high spin players who either don't have, or don't want to spend, the time necessary to get their spin down where it should be with lessons/swing changes.

They want the equipment to do it for them. :classic_cool:

The proof is right here, on WRX, EVERY day. :classic_laugh:

Exactly, golfwrx, a very very small segment of the golf population as a whole, and even then some of those guys chasing low spin are playing LM golf, not actual golf. Sub 2000 rpm is unplayable for almost everyone, yet tons of guys chase numbers in that range.

I fear I phrased my previous post poorly.

I'm not even talking about getting sub 2,000. Nor am I talking about "serious" golfers. If a decent player is spinning it say 2300 he shouldn't be looking to shave much, if anything, off of that.

But there are plenty of golfers that play quite a bit that know they need to get their spin rates down (not necessarily below 2000). WRX is far from the only place that is emphasized.

They're spinning it between 3-4000. They know it's too high and they don't want to take lessons and fix it. They want their equipment to fix it.

Even store salesmen know that in "fitting" someone for a driver they often have to get the player's spin rate down.

I read, or swear I read; that the additional jailbreak sections basically made the heads have the sub zero effect. Without an actual internal connection and being just for visibility I find this hard to believe. Sad to say the 4 jailbreak 'ports' are marketing at its worst.
