The black finishes are kind of a hack to the upcharge of raw.  Its not quite apples to apples when done, but like you said its super easy to just soak them in coke or CLR, then scrub a little and you get a nice greyish raw like look.

Depending on the finish, easier to just buy another wedge lol.  Removing chrome or satin requires tools/acid/blasting that most don't have either the knowledge or skill to do it, or a long azz time scotching it.  Even then a DIY job could end up looking like trash compared to a professional, or the alternate finish wedge.    

 

Best and easiest if you're really into it, is finding a metal shop to blast them.

Awesome...great info, thanks Gentlemen!

 

Came across a set of SM6’s (chrome/satin) that are a good price, but quite a bit of browning, so figured it could be a fun experiment to strip them. Sounds like it’s not worth the hassle and cost though.

excluding the special blue finish for 200, which if that's too high don't buy it - 

 

The standard vokeys are 159...callaway is 159, mizuno Cleveland 149

pings glide forged wedge is 200. taylormade's wedges all cost more than a Vokey

 

how is that a crazy price?

Yep, you can strip those for a nice raw finish. The SM7s seemed to have another layer of plating under the black finish, so it wasn't quite the same as raw when stripped. It still takes  chemicals and some of your time to do it though, some people value their time very much and would rather just pay the upcharge

I thought it was the SM8s that people stripped and they looked raw but the wedges were not rusting at all.

Waited till the Glide 3.0 came out.  Grabbed 3 brand new Glide 2.0 Stealths for 109.99 each.  Just have to know when to buy I guess.
