PXG Putter Feedback

I have a putter fitting scheduled for Thursday. I've really been looking forward to trying the Closer. I liked the PING Kushin Sigma, but an not a fan for insert putter faces and always wished it was a bit lighter. The Closer offers the chance to get to the weighting that I tend to favor in the 335 - 345g range.

I'm trying to keep an open mind about the aluminum body, especially since my current gamer is a MgBr Anser 3 with a goose neck hosel.

I loved the look of the sigma g kushin too. And I made the mistake of putting a kushin in the new line the other day. So I ordered a br closer today. I'll sell my br mustang as soon as the closer comes in and I can swap grips.  The mustang never beat the operator, which is firmly in the bag, so I figured I'd give the closer a try. Kushin look with a plumber's neck...well, sign me up I guess

I was not too fond of the thick top line on the Sigma G Kushin. I'm really looking forward to seeing the Closer. It shows a thin top line. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the Henry Ford  color choices with the Closer. I can have black, or ... well... black.

If I like it and it finds its way into the bag, I'll probably have it changed to Burnt Bronze gun coat. I have that color on other items and it's very durable.

Had the fitting today and another great experience with David J.

First, the PXG putters I hit really roll the ball well. I found that the Brandon really has a very soft feel and excellent control. After walking to the practice green, rolled the first thirty footer with about a foot of right to left break and the putt dropped center of the cup. That set up a great mindset as we went through the hosel and head changes.

The Mustang feels a bit more firm, but not at all what I would call "harsh". It also excellent control for both distance and direction. I initially thought the "wings" would bother me at address, but a couple of putts and I barely noticed it.

Having come with great anticipation of hitting the Closer, I was disappointed to learn that his had not yet arrived.

I like the feel and confidence each of the putters I tried. Even when matched with a hosel I would not put on my gamer.

I was hoping that the fitting would define once and for all whether I'm a plumbers neck or Double bend guy because I have played both with good success over the years. It turns out I'm a "tweener". I putted well and consistently with both. I even putted well with the flow neck, but it is not a natural "feel" for me and I found myself more focused on mechanics.

So, I did what any good WRX'er would do. I ordered the Closer with a plumbers neck.

I considered the color options thoroughly and ordered Black.  🙉

My closer is set to arrive Tuesday. Will see if it stacks up to the operator.

Me too...lol. now showing Wednesday arrival...

I like the operator a lot. But sometimes I just like to look at a blade. If the closer doesn't match up to the operator then I'll sell it. Took advantage of the reduced cost, regardless of performance.

Spitfire on the way

I was told by PXG that the shafts are now chrome not black

They said the black was not working out.

Will let you know how it works out in 2 weeks when it comes in

I just got a Spitfire (last Sat) and shipped off to get a Breakthrough shaft installed. It came from PXG with a black shaft so I hope that the part that is retained doesn't get beat up.

I read somewhere that the black KBS shafts are backordered and so PXG was using a different black steel shaft, which are not holding up cosmetically.

If the chrome shaft looks that bad when it comes in I can replace it.
Not that concerned about it.
I would rather have the chrome shaft then a black shaft that is going to peel and flake off. I think that would look worse than a chrome shaft.  I am more concerned about how the putter performs.

As long as you make putts right?

well if that’s the case then I will just rip that chrome shaft right off and put on a bright yellow or “extreme black” so I can fit in with a bunch of anonymous people on a message board.

I'm looking forward to hearing feed back on the Closer.

As for PXG, my putter fitting was last thursday at 3PM. I received confirmation of the order on Friday and today (Monday) received notification that it has shipped and is expected to be here Friday.

That's impressive PXG, real damn impressive. I really hope the putter is equal to the service level I have experienced with PXG on every transaction.

I ordered my Spitfire on Friday,  got notice yesterday it will be here Thursday.

Originally told it would be 2 weeks, so I was pleasantly surprised.

Now I need to make sure someone is home to receive delivery.

Closer has more tungsten.

Closer feels like the gen 2 operator. It has that muted thud feel just like the operator. Mustang has a crisper ting-like feel. Since the closer feels like the operator, I like it better. But i do prefer the look of the mustang. Mustang just looks more square all.around.

Gotta swap the grips and put the ss on the closer and then compare to the operator.

Rolled the Closer and the Mustang yesterday at the Mesa store. Both feel really nice and agree with @getitdaily on the feel of those two. The Mustange would be my choice. But, did figure out, again, I am a double bend guy. Could not pass on a Gen2 Gunboat on BST. Good by plumbers neck One & Done.

PXG build times are crazy fast. I purchased a Gen3 0311P GW on Friday and picked it up yesterday. They are on it right now!
