Srixon ZX7 Getting Some TXG Love

Bet if you put my set of 745 in there you'd get identical numbers... or the 919 tour.. or any AP2 model from the last 10 years. Irons don't change much. The more I ho, the more I realize that it's the guy holding it and that almost every single iron I try performs the same. It's all about what feels comfortable and balanced to you.

I agree once your properly fit for irons your good for a long time minus a swing change

Given Srixon's microscopic historic market share of the golf club market it would be a monumental achievement to be considered #1 in any relevant category. As a Srixon owner I'm pulling for them, but I'd be shocked if they approach the big guys in sales, units moved, tour presence etc. I hope I'm wrong, because they are a phenomenal company.

^^^ This.  The chance they are the #1 iron this year is roughly the same as Mr. Blutarsky's GPA - unless they qualify the statement to say, "Amongst gear heads and active golf internet forum members, the ZX series iron..."

That said, I'm thrilled with my set and hope that they do increase their visibility and market share within the broader golfing domain.

I think TXG’s best #1 iron fits into the category you described. Those of us that know better, look at an entirely different category.  Wont be the #1 iron at Dicks or Golf Galaxy for sure, but not one of the irons in that test will even be in that category. Only the longest wins that award.

To be fair, he was referring to Ian mentioning in the video that he predicts it will be THEIR #1 selling iron this year. This is a fair assessment as he’s mentioned in several prior videos that Srixon irons have been their best sellers in past years.

Really does paint a good picture about this category. You really can pretty much pick the iron you like and you know it’s gonna perform.

though I did have the same thought watching the video, remember that they don’t show us the video or data from consecutive shots. So if you go in off the street and hit all of these irons, one or two may certainly prove to be more consistent, longer or more forgiving for you on that particular day. But yeah, fun to see how close they all are. Though I’m a total ho, I really think we reached the point of diminishing returns years ago.

Especially in this category. I will say the zx7 sure does seem a lot easier to hit than some of the others. When you’re hitting them side by side with the MC and the Tour it feels like a more forgiving club.

BUT, to your point, that’s the iron that worked best for me.

Not a knock on the zx7s, but yea that video showed just how close everything really is and it just comes down to looks. Still think the 620cb doesnt get as much love as the t100, but fine by me.

When i picked my irons from other irons... everything was the same except for looks and feel. I went with what was the best feel to me by far... also turns out to be my favorite look.

I think that’s the result of computer-aided design to some extent. Combine that with player surveys and you’re going to get very similar performance in each category. Each brand will make visual and feel-related tweaks based on what they know their brand-loyal customers expect, but the performance should be very similar.

Agree. I even went away from my 745 last season to try a hotter cobra forged tec that I thought I needed. Figured out I basically hit them the same as my 745 with worse dispersion.  Went back to 745 and more greens hit.

We've all been there before.  Guy shows up to the tee box,  Brand new set of PXG irons, PXG staff bag, brand new ProV1's.  Proceeds to get his butt kicked by the guy in the group with a beat up set of Rocketballz irons from 8 years ago.

Still got to hit the center of the clubface.  🙂

Yeah, Ian even asks Matt about appearance and looks at address, etc. With their use of the Srixon irons over the last year, there’s going to be a slight bias toward the iron maker that “got you there”. No doubt the ZX7 are legit, but when the numbers are that close in output, it always comes down to personal preference in a fitting. Looks at address, feel/sound, price even....

TXG has been on a Srixon kick as of late, maybe a while, and that has a lot to do with the product and I am going to guess the business relationship.  Between Mizuno and Srixon they seem to get a lot of love and cooperation for “what if” type content.

I agree with almost everyone’s comments that the segment is razor close in looks, feel, and performance.  In my recent fit, the two irons I hit were basically the same in performance.....and unfortunately in price😫.

I played with a guy last weekend that was rocking Ping Eye.  Not Eye 2.  Ping Eye circa 1978.  He said his father bought them for him in high school and they were ‘used’.  He carried the 4-SW.  Said he had 1-3 iron at but couldn’t hit them well...

I really wanted to hit one but didn’t feel like I knew him well enough to ask.

I consider Wilson and Srixon to be very much the same in a way. Great irons that aren't big sellers. Biggest problem is after Callaway,Titleist, and Taylormade get done being crammed down our throats with commercials there's no more time left for anybody else to promote their stuff!😁

Here’s a 7i with my 745 from the other day with my coach. Spin isn't listed in that graphic but it was low to mid 6000s off a mat. I hit other irons in there too and it’s all similar. These came out 8 years ago and still do everything you could want. I like shiny too - I’ve had P7MC, 921 Tour, and T100. I just realized I wasn’t gaining much with having expensive irons. I will say, the T100 are more forgiving other than everything else in the test aside from maybe the Zx7 but the T100 also look the most like a blade. It’s a really good iron. If the next version has less business going on in the back and doesn't launch so damn high in the short irons I'd be in. The 4-6 are bullet straight and wild on ball speed.
