Srixon ZX7 Iron Review

I bought a "short set" of the ZX7s earlier this year -- 7-pw.  I have used the 4-6 U85s for some time as my long irons, even out of fairway traps.  Long and high.  The ZX7s are just what I was looking for.  Gave up P790s (seemed harsh and inconsistent distances).  Can only compare to my mp25s in feel.  After getting acquainted with the ZX7s I'm back into the 70s and I'm over 70 yrs old.  Great clubs.

Just hit these at my local PGA Superstore and fell in love. The feel is absolutely amazing, coming from AP3s.

Only minor thing that concerns me is the QC on the irons. I recently heard the back of the irons tend to “peel” off and wear away (where the silver paint is by the logo)...

Can anyone confirm this? Even if this was the case, as long as it doesn’t affect the groves then it’s all good!

This was only with the ZX5 as the ZX7 is 100% forged. I have combo set and no problems with either...

This issue is the paint adherence onto parts on the backside of the irons. Has nothing to do with whether the club is forged or not. Another WRX'er saw premature wearing/peeling on the cavity medallion.  I'm seeing wear on the inner part of the cavity that looks like club rub.

It is completely cosmetic.

This makes sense, but wouldn’t that be poor quality control? That shouldn’t happen to a brand new set of irons that cost $1200…🤷‍♂️

Not saying it shouldn't be happening. Just clarifying that it has nothing to do w/ zx7's being a forged body vs zx5's being a forged face only.

ive been playing these for a month now.   ZX7 with Stock Modus (Hate the shafts) but the clubs are fantastic.  Super forgiving, long and feel great.  Will get another set with different shafts in 2022 but will be gaming them again.

I will opt for the gap wedge next season though over the 3 iron

So I bought ZX5s, then pulled the trigger on some used XZ7s here. I'm going thru some shaft issues, but in terms of the club head, I'm having preference for the ZX7s. There seems to be enough forgiveness in the head itself and with the strong lofts, it works for me. I take shallow divots and certainly like the feel of it. While the ZX5s have lots of forgiveness and packs a punch, I just couldn't get used to the wider sole (which is fine, because it's still an amazing club).

Does anyone have experience between Steelfiber i95S, MMT 95S, and MMT 105S?

I tried a ZX7 / Steelfiber i95S combo and it's great. Just want to give the MMTs another shot but was hoping someone can shed some light on any comparisons at the 95 and 105 weight.

Man, I am late to the party on these irons.

I've been a Mizuno guy for a long long time.  I currently own a set of MP5s, MP18 combo set, and 919 JPX tours.

I snagged some Srixon ZX7 irons as a gift to myself and man are they good.  The feel is good, the performance is a wonderful mix of blade like but forgiving, and the V sole is phenomenal.

Definitely in the honeymoon phase, but these went immediately in the bag and I am hoping for a long-term committed relationship. 😉

I was flipping through the John Deere Classic pics and noticed most/all of the guys playing ZX7 had lead tape on them.  I'm no @BIG STU by any means, but I've got a bit on mine as well and as a general rule don't use it much.

Interesting...  I wonder if the heads came out a skosh lighter than industry norm.  I certainly didn't add mine to tweak any launch parameters - it was all about better dynamic feel with a lighter shaft.

It really depends--- Some guys like me may not like tip weights. I have not messed with any Srixon clubs in my shop yet so this is mere conjecture on my part. Due to the metal processes and the metals used  the club heads bare may be light like Mizuno heads. Or it can be exactly like you stated for you all about the dynamic feel with a lighter shaft. IMHO the last part may be correct I know it is for me. What is funny with my reputation as a Lead Tape Doctor I do not have one piece in those Muirfields I am playing now. I had those in the shop and forgot about them. Saw them one day and discovered they had factory Black Label TT R-300s from the factory in them which is rare. I played them on a whim one day in a vintage round. Felt good and hit good for me so I left them alone. LOL out of all the Macgregor irons I have hit and played over the years these hit the best. Does not mean I am swearing off of lead tape I just add when I FEEL it is needed.

Playing a combination set up with 4,5,6 in ZX7, 7,8,9 in Z forged with recoil proto 110 f4 and 48,53,58 custom Zipcore tour rack with recoil proto 125 f4- all playing plus 1/2”  and 1* up from Srixon standard specs with both the ZX7 6 iron and Z forged 9 iron at 1* weaker loft. Absolutely enamored with this set up, and it takes quite a lot to impress me.

Since you have hit flat bottomed blades some how is your turf reaction with the sole grind?  I like the look of those at address but the sole grind may be questionable for me. I am talking about the ZX7s--- Have not seen a set of the Z forged in the flesh so to speak. And from knowing your "golf" past I feel sure I can relate to your opinion. My Mac Hogans hit great and I love them but the Muirfields like they are off the scrap pile hit great. Even though they have the stock ferrules with SNs I think in the past they have been tuned by someone who knew what they were doing. The heads on these are pristine in as good of shape as the VIPs were when you guys sent them to me. Another clue is they have Victory cords in great shape. I might stir up something here and I do not mean to but those hit as good and as smooth as any Miuras I have ever hit. I thought after my conversion the Mac Hogans hit smooth as did the other set of Muirfields I built with Apex shafts for backup but these are abnormal
