Sim Max vs. G410 + Forgiveness

TTRacer

Recommended Posts

Considering a driver upgrade and debating between the Sim Max 1.0 and G410 Plus.  Currently play a M3 440 head and DI6-S shaft and would not mind a head that's a bit more forgiving.  Curious how the two drivers compare for forgiveness?  My preferences for look/sound and the fact that I already have a shaft I like with a TM tip on it sway me towards the Sim Max but I have read a lot of good things about the G410 + as well.

Side note: is the Sim Max a lot more forgiving than the regular Sim?

as someone who is diehard TM and played the SIM Max, the G410+ is way more forgiving and its not even close.

If the lone criteria is forgiveness then id go with G410+ and not look elsewhere. Looks, sound, feel are player dependent but forgiveness alone youll be happy

Thanks for the feedback.  Definitely do not love the looks of the G410 nor the sound but trying to make performance the #1 criteria these days.

yea SIM Max (to me) definitely looks better and sounds better. SIM should go farther with less back spin on better strikes but overall G410+ is gonna minimize big misses

If you're looking for forgiveness check out the Cobra Speedzone Xtreme. I won a free set of Cobra clubs last year otherwise I never would have considered even trying Cobra. The Xtreme was an amazing driver. Head shape is a little large and the sound is loud but performance wise it was incredible. If im being honest with myself it was much better performing in every category possible than SIM Max but I just wanted to play TM like every year lol

I have these 2 exact drivers ironically.  The Sim Max is hot melted.  Feel and sound Sim blows the G410+ away hands down.  I think forgiveness is pretty similar.  The Sim Max is actually better for me because of the twist face. It seems to work pretty well in the toe hook that pops up every so often.  Really not much forgiveness difference though tbh.  Both are pretty forgiving.  Distance isnt much different for me either...Sim may be a tad longer.  The only catch is that I have different shafts in them.  I have Ventus  velocore blue in the TM and evenflow black in the Ping.  I've always wanted to try the  Ventus in the Ping just to see.

With Ping having such heavy head weight I think their real performance and benefit gains usually come from a counter balanced shaft

I had a tensei pro orange in the 410 LST and it was amazing. ultimately just didnt like the look at address and went back to SIM

Just my own experience. I owned both and I would say that the G410 Plus is way forgiving. I love the looks of the Sim Max compared to G410 Plus, but with the Plus, I can confidently play boring golf with it. Aim left, since I fade and ball would always go back to the middle. Or if I mishit it, I don't get punished that much. And also, the sound and feel of the Sim Max, in imo, is way better.

I am curious in counter balanced shaft. Do you see the swing weight decrease with a counter balanced shaft?

yea typically about 3 points. Usually you can just buy a slightly heavier weight instead of the stock weight and you should be fine

im a fan of lead tape so a couple strips of tape will help also if you cant get access to a removable weight

in theory counter balanced shafts should let you swing the club the same speed but with a heavier head weight for more distance

Thanks. But Ping G410/G425 head weight is already on the heavy side so in general there is no need to add more weight right?

well for this years lineup it happens that the stock retail offerings (Alta CB, Tensei Av raw orange, rogue white) are all counterbalanced shafts that should SW at D3. So you should be able to swap out a counterbalanced shaft of your choice and it should be fine

People who play a more of a low launch/low spin shaft like ventus black or hzrdus black might find it to play very heavy. But people usually playing those shafts are fast swingers and prefer the heavier head weight. Id bet those SW's come out around D6 with no adjustments

If you choose a non counterbalance shaft do you just change to a lighter weight to get it back to a reasonable swing weight?  I guess you could also play the club at shorter than the OEM length as well?

I played a ping g410+  had the tense Orange in stiff.  I went to test a g425 thinking I was past due a change to a slightly softer shaft.  didn't care for the Max much and while there I tied a SIM Max .

Took the SIM Max home.  It has a Ventus Red 5R and I love it, seems a near perfect match for my current swing.  Then there's the sound, Ive played pings for years and they had it every once in a while Remember the rapture , it even had graphite in the top.

but the sound of the SIM Max is addicting, you'll want more.  Forgiving as the ping?  damn close, so far pretty much a tie for me.  The SIM seems to me a smaller face.  if you need real estate out where the sim face doesn't exist the ping wins.
