Plumbers Neck Mallet

Hey guys,

 

Been trying all kinds of putters recently just to see what suits my eye/stroke. Really like the look of a plumbers neck over the ball but would love a mallet when it comes to alignment. When looking at some of the more common mallets(ie Odyssey 7 and Spyder X) they don't have the PN option.

 

Why is there such a limited supply of plumbers neck mallets around? Is there a reason I am missing? Most mallets are face balanced or have a slant neck. With mallets popping up more and more on tour do you think this may be a more standard option soon?

The majority of people don't seem to like plumbers necks on mallets. They have been released but don't tend to sell well. 

 

Best bet...look at pxg. Their prices are down and you can get any putter with a plumber's neck.

Supply, demand and cost. Not every brand is going to offer 2-4 different necks on a single head shape unless it's a flagship model, even then it's limited. Smaller brands or boutique putter makers can do this along with getting a plumbers neck welded on if you like a specific shape. 

 

Like @getitdaily said PXG will be your best option as plumbers neck is an option for ever model they make. Prices are good too right now.

I have same struggle as you on limited mallet options, here is my list of what I have or am interested in:

 

Odyssey Works #7 CH (Crank Hosel) - this is my gamer, it has the metal mesh over the insert 

 

Odyssey O-Works V-Line CH

 

2-Ball blades have the crank hosel too

 

TM Spider L Neck

 

Ping B60 models

 

Ping Craz-e H models

 

There are a ton more if you dig, theses are just my common searches/wish list.

Golfworks sells various length adapters that will convert any 90* .370 putter to a hosel, not really a true plumbers neck but perhaps an option.

I would guess the weight of the plumbers neck is an issue. As you said most mallets are face balanced. Adding a small slant neck to get toe hang won’t change the weight and balance  that much. Adding a plumbers neck will. Therefore, you would have to design the putter with a plumbers neck from the beginning. As others have said there isn’t a big market for these types of putters. 

 

 Some options with a plumbers neck, Toulon Seattle, and ping Arno. I picked up a Seattle to give it a try.
