After installing a much heavier grip, how important is it to adjust the swing-weight?

I use the Golf Pride CP2 Wrap in Jumbo size which is vey heavy compared to a stock regular size grip.  Is it necessary to adjust eh swing-weight to counter the heavy grip?  Why or why not?

There's no right answer here, try both and see what you like. Without adding weight to the head you might feel that the head is too light. However if you add enough weight to get back to the same SW you might feel like the total weight of the club is now too heavy.

As mentioned, there is no right answer. Total weight plays just as much of a part in how a club swings and feels. The flaw in swingweighting is the fulcrum is 14 inches from the butt end. So grip changes will affect it. You dont hold the club at the fulcrum though. The value in swingweighting is to get similar build to be consistent in feel, (like you 5 iron to feel just like your 9 iron). But it doesnt work when the build is different, like a iron with 100g shaft and 80g grip swingweighted at D3 will feel massively different from a iron with 130g shaft and 30 gram grip swingweighted at d3. What i suggest is get a bunch of small weights, preferably 2g increments and slowly tape one at a time until you get a “feel” or balance you like. If want to feel what lighter feels like, grip down in about 1/2 inch increments.

I've seen it stated on here numerous times that grip weight variances only 'fool' the swingweight scale, as amongst other elements it was developed expecting 50 gram grip weighting only.

 

If that is the case, grip weight will make/little difference to head feel and the swingweight number you get will be meaningless.

 

As @Red4282 above stated, lots more to consider.

No need to add weight to the head. It will look good on the swing weight scale but will play very heavy and the shaft will feel/perform differently with the heavier head weight.

I would just to see how it feels. I like to keep everything consistent in regards to timing/etc and throwing some tape on to keep the same swing weight isnt a bad idea

You've gotten a lot of answers but here's a bit more on the 'why'

 

The swing weight scale and concept were never really designed or intended to manage grip weight changes.   That's the biggest problem with the swing weight scale in modern times.  It makes us think the balance of the club is important when in fact swing weight matching with the swing weight scale was never intended to be about the balance of the club.

 

Most can make the grip change w/o needing to change head weight but there are always exceptions.

 

And you should never use the SW scale to adjust the head weight due to a grip change.  Ideally you should refit yourself for swing (head) weight based on the fact that the static weight changes.   e.g. drop the head weight down a bit (if possible) then go to the range with lead tape and add it incrementally to find the 'new' best head weight by feel and ball flight.
