PXG. Obnoxious marketing and hideous looking clubs.

Wilson, probably. The whole Fat Shaft thing was an affront to my delicate sensibilities.

PXG. Ugly clubs and even worse commercials.

Yes, totally get why people who do play Titleist choose to do so. Seriously, what's not to like?

$160 cast wedges, $400 putters, $160 putter weight kits, $48 urethane balls, $35 surlyn balls, frivolous lawsuits.  A better question is, what is there to like?

That's one way to look at it, I suppose.

They charge what they charge because enough people are willing to pay those prices.

IMHO, the company I do some part-time work for is every bit the equal or superior to Titleist in every category, but by no means does Titleist stink in any of them. Their financial reports speak to that.

There's a reason most free agent tour players will play vokeys, a Scotty, and a pro v ball. And anymore everything else is priced the same. What is there to like? Performance, looks, and tour validation.

Cameron first, because his fame came from making fancy Ping knockoffs.  And Titleist in general, who tries to separate themselves as the "pro's brand" which drives elitism and high prices.

To be fair, try to find a putter maker that doesn't use a design from Karsten. Ping pioneered modern putters, and they should be the number one putter maker in the world as a result, and the only people they can blame for not being on top is themselves. For most people, those "knockoffs" feel and look much better than what Ping is creating at the moment.

Taylormade, they are the company who started releasing a driver every year or less.  Buy a new club at xxx$ and 6 months later the new model is out and the old one is on sale for way less.

I’m not a fan of that notch in the hosel of Ping irons. I don’t understand it and it looks stupid.

Personally the Pro VI was horrible for me and they feel like rocks, and Scotty’s feel like any other putter to me.

All personal preference, and I understand the prestige factor and that a lot of people love them...but just not for me don’t really understand what’s so great about them.

I agree. In terms of play, a scotty putter (let’s say newport) is not going to make you drop more putts than a newport style putter from every other brand (assuming weight, loft, lie, etc are the same). That’s why it really comes down to looks, and Scotty putters are going to win out in terms of looks for most golfers, as long as they’re willing to pay the price. And most other brands aren’t far off in terms of price. Obviously personal preference is hugeeee in golf (as you can see from this thread lol) so I won’t discount your dislike for a product. It just isn’t for you, nothing wrong with that. Almost every product is great for some and terrible for others.

Makes sense. Yeah, I agree 100%...at the end of the day everyone has to use what’s best for them, and I don’t knock anyone for using any particular brand or model.

Spite - a common thread in all these posts.  I love it!

When I first read this I was like “Spite? Never heard of them. Maybe a boutique brand???” Haha

I think all Major OEMs make quality products. Just a matter of finding what works best for you. Like other have said, the PXG marketing isn’t my cup of tea. I’m sure it works great for some people. Not gonna hate on anyone that chooses it. Odd to me to hate on Scotty and people that like his stuff just because you don’t like it. But as they say, haters gonna hate. Toulon putters are around $550 but apparently they’re ok??? Perhaps they’re ground breaking in some way Cameron’s aren’t. When I start getting spiteful towards manufacturers and the people that play their stuff, I’ll try to figure out what’s really bothering me.

PXG & Cobra for me, they're just too loud & brash.

They're far from the only loud & brash brands but for no good reason that I could give, they're the brands that bother me 🤣

Ping is also a bit of a strange one for me, I've never taken to the look of their irons but really rate the woods & wedges.. yet I've never owned a Ping club

Driver - Taylormade SIM 10.5 Proforce v2 70g x stiff

3 wood - Titleist 910f 15 Proforce v2 80g x stiff

Hybrid- Titleist 910h 19 Motore Speeder Tour Issue 8.8 stiff

Irons - Mizuno 919 Tour 4 - PW KBS Tour stiff

Wedges - Titleist SM7 51 / 55 / 60 DG wedge flex

Putter - Yes! Callie (most the time)

Ball - Titleist Pro v 1

Everything else was priced the same, and then Titleist bumped the price and everyone else mostly followed suit.  The Cameron putters the pros play are nothing like the putters you can can buy at your local PGA Superstore.

I never said Titleist makes crap.  I said that, as a consumer, their practices and the ripple effect across the industry run counter to my interests.  As a result, they'll never get my dollar.  You don't have to agree with my reasons, but it won't change them either.

I completely agree.  Businesses charge what consumers are willing to pay for their goods.  For example, Apple sells Mac Books at a 40% (more or less) premium compared to their Windows competitors because (some/many) consumers are willing to pay that premium.

I am not willing to pay that premium and, like Apple, I won't buy Titleist products.  I'm not trying to speak for anyone else on this forum...this is my rationale.

PXG.  Don't get it.  Odd looking clubs that cost a ton of money with no real evidence that they perform any better than the competition.  I am not taking a shot of people that play them but when i see players with them i do roll my eyes a bit.

That being said, i am not in the demo that perhaps buys PXG or high top golf shoes.

For me personally, I wouldn’t mind paying extra if the performance really separates it from other products.

But I don’t feel like that’s the case with Titleist products...haven’t found any of their stuff yet that I prefer other OEM’s. That’s the reason I don’t buy their stuff.

That seems like your taking a shot at people who play them.  The whole rolling eyes superiority thing.  As someone who plays them, I guess I should aspire to be in your demo.

Glad you like them but this thread "What brand are you most averse to and why?".  Just stating my opinion.

Glad you like yours and based on your HDCP, you're a very good player.  Hit what you enjoy.

My opinion stands....i'm adverse to PXG. 🙂

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
