There won’t be any green list and it’s unclear on the ‘emergency brake’ EU list right now.

Ireland has a list of designated states from which travel requires mandatory hotel quarantine, North America section says this:

North America

  • Canada
  • Costa Rica
  • Panama

Note: the United States of America was removed from this list on Friday, 28 May with immediate effect

Note: Puerto Rico was removed from this list on Saturday, 22 May with immediate effect

Note: Bermuda was removed from this list on Saturday, 15 May with immediate effect

Thanks for the update. How’s things going with reopening there?

Pretty good, 40+ Age groups registering for vaccines now, shops all open, hospitality starts to open next week. Numbers of cases have stopped going down, but mostly stable and hospital cases staying low with good vaccine penetration. Half of all adults have had at least one vaccine and our vaccine take up is well over 90% across all age groups, which is better than most of Europe. 98% take up or so in over 70s.

sports and entertainment test events starting this month. We would certainly be on the cautious side with the timing of reopening but it does look like a very solid plan. Some concern on importing variants is our main risk.

Sounds good. Crossing our fingers things continue to improve and we are able to make the trip at the end of Sept.nks again for the updates.

Looks like the delta variant may be causing plans to change. What’s the feeling on things not opening back up?

So indoor dining and drinking was outlined as reopening possibly July 5th, that’s been postponed to July 19th at least and talk that it will be fully vaccinated patrons only. Some doubts about how that would be managed etc. Seems most likely to be just a way to get 3/4 more weeks of vaccines administered. Which would be another 1million or so at the rate we have been going.

weather here has been very good generally for last while, so outside of the business owners who are taking another big hit, not a great deal of concern, outdoor dining and drinking has been going fine. Trial outdoor events continue, 8k due at some matches this weekend for example, some crowds allowed at the Irish Open starting Thursday.

Ok thanks again for the update. I read that US travel to Ireland is scheduled to open in July 19th. Any more word on that still being the date? What I read was that vaccinated people will not have to quarantine, but non vaccinated will have to quarantine until after negative test result after arriving.

No change to plans as yet, July 19th travel opens, based around EU travel covid cert scheme. Discussions with USA and UK ongoing about some kind of mutual acceptance of the travel scheme. In theory either fully vaccinated, had COVID in last 9 months or negative test in last 5 days would allow travel unrestricted under the scheme. I think I the details of that might vary if coming via the UK, where the delta variant is spreading and then onward into EU.

Just read that travel is opening back up on July 19th. Have they released a list of countries that won’t have quarantine yet?

Still as planned but not firm details. Waiting for the cert news really. There won’t be a lot of countries,. Just EU countries using the cert and everyone else.  Then they will move countries to a higher level based on case numbers etc.  at the moment for instance the UK will be on that list.

So should be fine coming from US if vaccinated. If traveling to the UK first it may be a different story.

I live in Canada and it looks like we're good to go as of the 19th. Our Ireland trip starts August 8th and we just need proof of a double vaccination and a negative test within 72 hours of arriving in Ireland. Northern Ireland is still holding out, so our Portrush/County Downs rounds are in Jeopardy. Hoping for some good news in the next few weeks.

Vaccination AND a negative test? That seems like a bit much, but hoping the best for you. Where are you guys playing in Ireland?

It’s ‘OR’ at the moment but it will depend on agreement with EU on COVID cert which requires one or the other. I believe the risk with Canada is they are concerned about reciprocal arrangement. Within Ireland there are no borders so your trip north will be fine.

it seems like it will all be ok, only risk is the major ongoing growth of Delta variant. Out news this morning is that Pfizer will recommend a 3rd does for all to better resist it for example.

Great itinerary. We will be there late Sept and playing The Island, Palmerstown House, Doonbeg, Lahinch x2, Tralee x2, and Bally x2. Thinking about adding a fun shamble 4 man teams round on the Cashen course since I’ve heard it’s virtually unplayable on some holes. Have a great trip!

The above is confirmed this evening with a little more detail.

Quote

Speaking after the Cabinet meeting, he said the legislation would come before the Dáil, possibly as early as tomorrow and it was anticipated it would come into force some day next week but no later than Monday July 26th.

He said the plan was to allow those under age 18 to attend indoor hospitality with their parent or guardian even though they were not vaccinated which meant social distancing rules would continue to apply indoors as they did last summer.

Those who are vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19 in the past six months will have to show proof of this to access indoor hospitality.

The Government’s new Digital Covid Certificates (DCC), which Ireland and other EU countries are implementing, can be used by members of the public as evidence of being fully vaccinated, or other medical documentation, which will be set out in guidelines.

For visitors to Ireland from outside the EU, including the US, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, a nationally certified equivalent can be used for the purposes of verifying vaccination or immunity status.

Mr Varadkar said this was not the ideal way to reopen indoor hospitality but the alternative was to wait until September when all adults are vaccinated and “even then it may not be possible to reopen because at that stage all teenagers may not be vaccinated, we’ll be concentrating on getting the schools and colleges open and open successfully and we’ll be heading into the winter”.

Just got confirmation this morning from Aer Lingus that our flights in and out of Shannon have been cancelled and they booked us to Dublin instead. Do you know if this is part of the covid plan to make all international flights only arrive into Dublin? Not a huge deal to our trip, but having to drive 2 extra hours to Dublin instead of Shannon won’t be fun.

Our 2021 Scotland trip was postponed and with The Open in 2022 at TOC and Muirfield, we decided to reschedule Scotland for 2023.

For 2022, we have decided to go to Ireland and have an itinerary that starts in late July and ends in early August.

We are hoping to fly directly from the States into Shannon, and then return from Dublin. Our strategy is to go directly into Ireland from the States, so all the connections are made here, rather than in Europe/UK.

Initial research I have done tell me there are direct flights from Newark (United), Philly (American) with Aer Lingus having direct flights out of Boston or JFK.

It seems none of the airlines are booking out to July/August 2022 yet.

Hope to keep this thread alive with up-to-date/breaking news on how to get to Ireland and play some golf!

My group is going to Ireland early October. Our original flights were from jfk to Shannon nonstop. But I think due to covid Ireland has restricted international flights to Dublin only. I would think by next year you should be fine. One of my group booked a nonstop flight from Boston to Shannon. You should have no issues booking non stop flights to Shannon and from Dublin. Another good thing about flying into Shannon is you clear US customs before you leave so you don’t have to deal with the crowd at JFK when you arrive.

Aer lingus closed Shannon operations a few months ago, basically basing 100s of people there was costly with so few flights, so centralized everything to Dublin.  I think US immigration wanted to do the same also. There are some political complaints that they should reopen, but seems unlikely by October. There is a motorway all the way but as you say not ideal. I’m currently down near Lahinch on holiday, stunning weather by our standards the last week or so.
