Sandals Resorts Golf Course Recommendation

Recommended Posts

Hi all, have my wedding coming up and we're planning on a potential honeymoon to a Sandals resort. The future wife is very kind and has made a point to let me know we should try and get on that includes golf on site or near by. So my question is pretty simple (I think), have you played any of the courses at / near Sandals resorts, and what did you think of them?

Callaway Mavrik Driver

Titleist TS2 4w

Titleist TS2 7w

Mizuno MP20 MB 4-W

Vokey SM8 50*

Vokey SM8 55*

Taylormade HiToe 60*

Scotty Cameron Phantom X5

Sandals are really overpriced, they are nice though. I'd suggest Secrets instead...many of them have the golf feature as well.

Yeah I definitely get that side. We just figured if there's ever a time to not worry about price, might as well be the honeymoon. Lol

Understandable and I didn't mean to get on a financial soapbox but they are so overpriced that you can stay at better resorts and pay out of pocket for far superior golf and still have a lower price tag than Sandals. That being said, I haven't checked their pricing in awhile so if Covid caused them to lower their prices dramatically, then ignore everything I said.

have stayed at Sandals, Multiple secrets resorts, and Excellence Playa Mujeres in Mexico.

sandals was by far the most expensive and worst experience of the 3 brands. Worn down/older resorts. Plain looking and dated rooms (even in the Butler category). Food not as good.

I wouldn’t go back to a sandals again personally. I know there’s people who love them but as said above much better to be found with other brands

The better half and I have stayed at a couple of the various Sandals resorts. We’ve had better luck and experience at Sandals than some of the large chain type resorts. So far our favorite has been Emerald Bay on Exuma in the Bahamas. The beach and views are insane. Go swimming with the pigs, it’s gimmicky but fun. Golf course right next door that the resort owns. With certain rooms you can play for free (maybe all the rooms now). For a while the course was hosting a web.com event. I believe it’s a Norman design. Had a partnership with TM so the rentals were actually decent. If I remember correctly they acquired the course in St. Lucia as well. Antigua has a “country club” that was similar to a pasture here in Oklahoma. In fact there were goats roaming a few holes on the course. Amusing but not the good experience I was after.

Sandals in Exuma still hosts that event. Golf course is really really tough, especially if you have a windy day. The people there are amazing, and like you mentioned the views/beach are unbeatable. I’ve been in 19’ & 20’ and while I don’t stay at the resort I’ve always looked forward to going there.

The course in Exuma is a lot of fun.  It was the first place my wife and I ever traveled together, long before we were married.  This was back in 2009 when it was a Four Seasons (I think, it has been 12 years).  Either way, we had a blast there and enjoyed it but haven't been back since so that may be outdated in every way.
