So Psyched! ISI-S Back in the Bag

I picked up a sweetheart of a deal today: ISI-S 4-SW in minty condition.  I've been waiting for a set in this configuration for a while and I'm incredibly excited to build a bag around them.  They're headed to PING for a massage (cleaning, loft/lie adjustment) and they are otherwise perfect.  They've got JZ Cushin stiff with Textured Spiral wraps in perfect condition.  So psyched!

I'll get some soon.  They're headed to Phoenix from Naples, Florida and I hope to have them in hand with a refreshed Anser X in a couple of weeks.

Yes, they certainly do.  This set doesn't need it but my Eye2 XG wedges did and they are perfect.

id love to find a set of minty Zing II’s, that’s the first set I ever bought. I’m a lefty though , and I don’t see that happening.

Would suggest the you join this FB group and place a request that you're LTB.  Heads don't have to be mint, they can be refurbished to like new condition at a reasonable cost ($13/per).

Do ping loft and lie old irons? I read somewhere that due to age the metal was too hard to risk bending. Myth or true?

See conflicting information about OSP irons regarding loft/lie adjustments.  Depends.  I've read that they no longer bend (or work on) Cu or Ni.  Will still bend SS up to a point.  A signed wavier releasing Ping from liability is required in any case.  They once had a list on their website of what clubs they would still work on and the limits to adjustability.  However, can't seem to find it this morning.  This is from a 2011 Repair Release Form:

 

"When loft and/or lie angle adjustments are being made to older models, or outside the maximum range of adjustability. Certain factors, such as the type of metal (ie. stainless steel vs. copper or nickel), its age, and the number and extent of adjustments that have already been performed will affect the adjustability of your set. The PING Repair Department will determine on a case-by-case basis whether the requested adjustments can be performed. Please check the Maximum Lie Angle Adjustability chart in the Repair section of the website for current adjustability guidelines."

 

With all this uncertainty and potential breakage risk, why I believe it's important to acquire one's correct lie (color code) at the onset.  Don't think it would be prudent to buy say a red dot and attempt to adjust to green.  Third party benders may say they could, but they better know what they're doing.  Otherwise SOL if the hosel breaks.  Would me very reluctant to have any bending work done on a matching serial #'s set

I didn't have to sign a waiver for the ISIs.  When I've sent in sets of Eye2s from 82-84 (conforming), I've always had to sign one...

I have ISI nickel lob and sand wedges and love them

 

Played it ISI-S for years and the guy I sold them too traded them back to me 20 years later.. which I flipped for other clubs last summer

 

Have just grabbed some BeCu eye2 irons and those will be my old school Ping set going forward
