I started a thread about this article several years ago, it’s a great read.  If nothing else it reminds me how horrible sports journalism is now compared to back then.

Sam  was an under rated wedge player. Everyone was mesmerized by his swing. Hogan never beat Sam in a match play situation. Snead was also known as the guy who birdied the first hole in a round more than any other player.

Very late poster here.. as a huge Snead fan (all Wilson classic bag) anyone know what model irons or woods he had in his bag during the 65’ 

Shell match against Hogan in Houston? I’ve used the search engine here to find the obvious with the clubs being Wilson’s (of course), but would love to get more detailed info on what he was carrying. Or, what he normally gamed after his prime.

I need to do some research on that match. 

I'm almost 100 percent sure he had the new "turf riders" for his earlier match with Nicklaus in '63.

edit…Maybe that was his preferred model?
Different decade, but I watched a 1980’s Snead tutorial series shot at the Greenbrier ( I believe) and there is a part discussing how to hit it out of bad lies. It appears he’s holding a Turf Rider. I could see the little bullet cutout on the back where the “Turf Rider” stamp was as well as the W/S round logo on the toe. 
To bad the Hogan match doesn’t have close ups like that. Turf Rider  at :20:53 mark.

Sam hated Wilson woods, especially the drivers. Toney Penna made Sam a driver he loved and used for years,. In order to avoid contract problems with Wilson, Toney put a Wilson sole plate on the driver.

I think so, pretty sure that's a bullet back. The groove gives it away.

Here's a picture of Sam from "Open Championship 1965. Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England, held 7th - 9th July 1965"  Zoom in on the picture.  They look more like Turfriders to me than '65 Dynapowers.  Not the Hogan match.  But the same year.

Not exactly. Hogan beat Sam twice at the Palm Beach/Goodall Round Robin, once in '39, 3-up, and again in '46, 4-up.
