Have Ping fired their old design team?

What happened with Ping? They are no longer the boring beige OEM's of golf!  Now they are bold, sexy and authoritive.

Amazing looking irons - G425 easily the best looking CB iron in a decade

Ping drivers looking amazing - and authoritive!

I know it wont last and they will go back to their awful designs lol - But for the last 2 years the team as stepped up big time!

They have made some good moves but i still think there is a ton of room for improvement. The fairways without turbulators was a good move imo. Blueprints were a hit. But man, their putters, yeesh... they really need to bring the pld to retail.

They really need to get rid of their hydropearl finish. It just looks bad very quickly. Either chrome plate or go back to natural finish SS.

Agreed with you. I have the Ping IE1 irons I like them a lot still. I want more forgiving irons and the G425 irons are eyeing me but I had the glide wedges awhile ago and I did not like the hydropearl finish at all. So the new G irons have that finish where my Ping IE1 don't and I still hit them great.

It’s funny I keep hearing this but my g410s look great after 100 rounds since I bought them and my old mans g400s have had probably four times that many rounds and he’s had no issues either. Maybe we just got lucky.

I played Ping for a long time, but had some issues. Shafts snapping with Cushin inserts, heads flying off with the old Tisi driver, TPU's flying out with irons, bubbling finish with my S55's. I had factory iron swing weight issues, a G5 driver rattle, a cracked G400 driver. I don't play Ping anymore even though I like their drivers and irons, however, their putters just seem a bit average these days.

Whatever works.

Shafts snapping with Cushin inserts

This happened to me. I think the Cushin insert design is flawed.

I was punching out with my 6 iron. My follow through hit a twig branch no bigger around than my pinky, and my Modus 105 snapped at the exact location of the Cushin insert.  I was shocked since there was so little force involved. But, if you think about it, it makes perfect sense.  Even a bit of force applied to the shaft with a string of BBs somewhere in the middle...boom.  I put ProSofts in my next set.

I do like the Hydropearl finish. I like chrome, too. I guess some people care more than others. Whatever gives me the most hydrophobic spinsistincy 😄

I hear Parsons took several peeps from Ping, including designers, when he started PXG. Paid them a LOT.

I’ve gamed a set of Eye 2’s since the mid to late 80’s.  Memory is a little fuzzy.  Bought sets for each of my three boys as they came into golf, and they still play them.

After a golf hiatus, and making the mistake of reading the equipment threads on this forum, I succumbed to some new shiny metal sirens and bought a set of Apex 19’s.  Now I’m not so sure and have been recently cleaning the Eye 2’s....

I love Ping, but for real..... it's about time to do something about the sound of the drivers.  Say what you want about Parsons and his snatching of the engineers and designers but they make some really nice sounding clubs at PXG.  If Ping could do even just a little bit to calm it down, I can not see anyone touching them in sales.  I would probably never buy anything but Ping ever again.

I have no idea why they dont reissue the eye 2 and ISI ranges. It's difficult when you get it right early on.

I've seen more worn out glide wedges than original Eye 2 wedges already

That was part of the allure with the originals.....you could simply drag the old Eye 2 down the cart path after hitting a bad shot. Yet not even think about it damaging that old POS iron any!

I could care less whether an iron is sexy or not.  I expect results.  To me there is nothing sexier than irons producing the right flight on a well struck shot straight at the pin (or my intended target).  I find simple forged blades to be very sexy!  To me these two irons are ultra sexy!!!!

The Apex Grind was a terrific iron, very small sweet spot and could be hard to hit without a terrific swing.  Super sexy!!!

G400 and g410 drivers sound great. However the 400 woods sound how the g425 driver sounds. Even the g425 driver sounds ehhh. Lol idk how dudes are really blown away. I’ll take my 400 or if I do want the adjustability then I’ll take the 410. But the g425 y’all can have it lol

I'll agree with the 400, it is by far their best sounding driver, but why couldn't they carry that over to the 410??  The 410 LST sounded ok, but the + was not good.  I know they can mute them a bit, why don't they is all I'm asking.  If you have never hit a PXG driver, I suggest you do just to hear what the potential is with the Pings...

I agree with you so much on the G400, I have started looking again even though I do own a PXG 0811 Gen 2 XF.  Lol
