E12 contact

After a few weeks switching back and forth between the Maxfli Tour and the e12 Contact, I have decided to put the e12 in the bag for the season.  I may do some comparisons during the season if I run into any problems, but there are too many positives about the e12 that I can't ignore.  Here's a few:

1.  Distance wise, it's the longest ball I've hit to date.  I'm not a high swing player so perhaps I'm actually compressing the ball better, but when I've switched back to the Maxfli Tour for a round or two, I'm giving up distance with both the driver and irons.  It may not affect the score, but it's enough that I can see the benefit of going with more distance.

2.  I know they advertise it as a "straight" ball, but I think that's a bunch of nonsense.  However, I do think that my misses are less severe.

3.  Feel is really nice.  Not too soft, and not too hard.  Softer than the Maxfli Tour, but not as firm as some of the tour balls I've tried.

4.  Spin hitting into the greens seems just as good as any tour ball I've tried.  I'm probably not a high spin player so this may be me more so than the ball.

5.  Durability seems really good.  Like all balls, eventually you will notice some wear marks and being the picky type, I just rotate those to my shag bag that has all the balls that I practice with.  If I can get a couple rounds out of a ball, I'm happy.

I know that the ball lab on MGS didn't exactly give this ball a high mark, but I find it comparable to the Maxfli Tour and it got very high marks.

I can’t comment on the e6 soft as I never got along with those, but after an initial round Saturday I will say they are close in feel and performance for me to the 2015 e6 (back when it was a 3 piece ball). Pretty pleased with it.
A little shorter than my normal MTB on properly struck drives, but in average not far off. Nice feel with the irons, but as previously mentioned more runout around the green, but again on par with the 2015 e6 which I got pretty comfortable with.
If I had a complaint, maybe should be in the $26 price point, but considering what I just paid for lumber I won’t quibble about $3.

So I am going to play the hammer control tomorrow at elevation.  It launces a little higher than the e12 up here and is very similar everywhere else.  If it works I will play it up here and the e12 in the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix area).  I am also auditioning new irons tomorrow and may switch between balls during the round.  Both balls do well off the driver up here.

I like the e12, but I am also testing other surlyn balls at the moment, as the BRX is my usual game ball. I’m not seeing appreciable gains from the RX, to be honest, over these ionomer balls. I think the RX really behaves like a mid-compression surlyn ball, and that may be the reason spin/carry numbers seem very similar. This may also be why I am liking these other cheap options.

I like a nice click of sorts off a well struck iron(or putt for that matter) and the RX was pretty neutral in that department, but pretty good. What I cannot stand is a muted thud on any shot, because no matter where it’s struck on the face, the ball never sounds flushed. The combo of a nice click and low vibration on a pure one is what I’m after. The muted thuds, that send good feedback up the shaft should be mishits, “feel-wise” for me.

Long story short, I bought some cheapo Noodle Distance balls to trial on the low end. It suffices to say, the cover sounds how I want, even though it’s lower compression, and the LM spin/carry is almost equal to the RX. Maybe I’ve been gravitating away from urethane this whole time, and the RX was just a crutch, bridging the gap for my ego, under the guise of a Tour marketed ball? Hmmmm????

Looking forward to your comparison. The HC is a good ball but haven’t tried the E12C yet

I just played e12 Contact last week because I was interested in the whole "Straight distance" marketing.

Here's what I'll say (and I'm a 12 handicap), I hit some missiles with these things. I'm not sure if it was just my driver was working that day but I probably hit 7-8 drives that were absolutely lazer straight 270-285 yards.

As far as the feel, they felt extremely hard and we're not soft around the greens. I'm not a expert but how hard the ball was when you hit it was noticable and didn't give me a ton of spin/stop/control with my wedges. They clicked and bounced off your wedges, not a whole lot of soft compression.

Great ball it seems for drives/long irons but I would prefer something with better feel from 130 yards and in. Seems like it's a ball for mid-high handicap golfers who are the weekend warrior type. If you looking to have some fun and bomb drives, these would be a good choice. If your a low handicap or rely a lot on your short game, these wouldn't be the ball for you

Just back from my hammer control audition at elevation.  I will play this ball for awhile up here. No significant difference for me around the greens and the higher launch helps up here for my irons. Shot one under but had 4 bogies. Some of that was new irons with different lofts and a different ball so I was not sure about carry distances. Overall very happy. Will still use the e12 at lower elevations.
