New putter for left hand low?

Hi all

i have just started putting left handed low.  So far it seems to be working well for me, but there is one thing bothering me.  In the past I have always played putters with quite a lot of toe hang.  I get the impression that a left hand low stroke is more straight back straight through and so may need less toe hang.  Have any of you made the change to left hand low and did you change your putter at the same time?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Honestly I think sometimes it can be deceiving. I switched to left hand low last year and it was pretty revolutionary for my game. I had a few rounds where the putter went on fire like it never had and I went really low. I was putting with a blade Anser/Newport style at that time. Even with extra toe hand I actually solved missing putts left by going to a more face balanced model so it isn’t necessarily always as correlative as you’d think...

anyways I use a white hot pro 7 now and it is scary accurate. I am very excited to see what happens with my putting this season..

Did you go face balanced version of the 7?  I have been thinking of that as an option!

I have putted left hand low since 1990.  Of course I did take 15 plus years off for a couple of compound fractured arms.

When I made the switch, I used the same Ping Redwood that I had used with conventional grip.

When I came back after the injury, I soon went to a mallet.  I currently use either a Ping Prime Tyne PLD 35 inch, or a Spider Tour black 34 inch.

I am not a great putter, probably kind of average for a medium single digit.  Conventional grip I am horrible LOL.

LHL putting for about a year and a half now. Currently with a naked Nike B2-01 with a Stability tour shaft and Gravity grip. Toe hang is very slight with the setup, but the biggest change I noticed (w the hand grip change, then the equipment change after) is that the face squares up so good, and I can feel when the contact is not square. Arc has been much more consistent as well. Start line consistency has been very consistent, and my putting 15ft and in has never been better.

I am waiting for a Black Series ProType 2Ball (milled 1025 carbon face) and will be gaming that during a trip this week (with the current wand serving as a backup), so I’m excited to try LHL and my old claw grip on a mallet putter.

Thanks all.  Some useful info here.  Does seem that people feel it is a straighter swing path using left hand low (for right handers - apologies to the earlier poster!).

I haven’t got access to anything to measure at the moment but it certainly seems that way to me.  Loving my current putter but when things are open again in UK I might try some alternatives with less toe hang (this is golfwrx after all!!).

I have never been anything other than left hand low. When I first picked up clubs that was the way that I gripped all of them and whist I changed with my other clubs, putter never seemed like an issue. I have used a mixture of putters over the years. It’d say that it is definitely worth trying something with a little less toe hang but by the same token, I think the most well known LHL guy at the moment is Jordan Spieth and I think we can say that generally, he putts pretty good with a blade style putter.

Don't have data but going to say no. I went to left hand low and stayed with the same putters and they worked fine. It probably feels more straight because you have taken your hands more out of the stroke with left hand low. In reality shoulder rotation and ball position play a large part in arc as well so your actual arc may not have changed much.

I think that explanation probably explains why I feel there is less arc.  Definitely that is how it feels but the reality might be different.

ive been left hand low for 2 full seasons now. Like @TigerInTheWoodsmentioned ive found face balanced works a heck of a lot better for me than something with toe hang

Scotty Phantom x5 for a mallet is my go to and Bettinardi SS28 as balanced mid blade.

I would suggest you get a putter tune-up. Going to LHL is a significant change. A good fitter could see if your putter  gives you what you need for a new stroke. One thing you want to check out is which eye is dominant... This will influence your alignment, regardless of grip.

Been left-hand low for over 25 years.

I've always used a putter with at least 40 degrees of toe hang. Tried a face-balanced mallet for part of a season a few years ago. Worst putting  of my life. Went back to a toe hang putter, and been happy since.

Left hand low helps prevent you from flipping the putter. If your natural shoulder movement rotates the face, changing which land is lower should not change that.
