If I lived closer (40 minutes driving) I'd jump all over it.  Two $199 rounds and unlimited $30 afternoon rounds for that $270 per month?  The math adds up if you like the course...  I spend a whole hell of a lot more than $270 on golf every month.

I was a member around ten years ago, but dropped it due to the cost and the fact that it was too far away to be practical for me. Obviously the program may have changed in those ten years, but it seems similar when I check the website so here are my thoughts:

The main pros are discounted access for one of the nicer courses in the DFW area and unlimited use of a good range and practice facilities (I see you get two rounds of golf included with your membership, although I'm not clear if these can be used at any time or restricted). You should ask yourself if this alone is worth it to you as it is primary benefit. They do have free clinics which can be helpful, but during my time these changed from being run by the head pro (no longer with Cowboys, but was a top 100 teacher) to the assistant pros. While this is understandable, having a top teacher definitely made the free clinics a bigger part of the value proposition.

The main con in my mind is monthly cost, which is obviously very expensive. If you want unlimited range balls, many places will offer it for less I think. I will admit that Cowboy's facilities are generally superior to other DFW options, but the cost is definitely higher. Cowboys is also sort of a remote club, so unless you live nearby it's going to be a hike to get there (this was the primary reason that I quit, I found myself not wanting to make the hike out there).

In terms of other benefits, the twilight rounds are nice, but I found that they were generally timed so that you'd have to get one of the first available tee times once twilight started or you'd struggle to finish (I remember once making a long birdie on #18 and it was so dark I didn't see the putt drop). If you're fine with playing less than 18 holes then it's not an issue, but I like to finish the full 18 so I always felt like I was rushing around.

All in all, I would consider this more of a luxury purchase. If you live nearby and don't mind playing the same course all the time it could be worth it, but if all you really want is range balls or you live far away I would shop around. Also, my experience was over ten years ago, so it may be better (or worse) now.

Matt
