or auto par on the first.

Wait. This is new to me. I get the first tee mulligan mentality, but you’re saying you take a par on the first hole no matter how many strokes you took?

Any more and I start thinking and we all know that never ends well.

Normally play straight out of the trunk. 55yo

47 here.  For some reason I am great trunk-to-tee.  With minimal to no stretching my swing is compact and I can connect on a good one right down the middle.  Thinking always turns things around.  If i get a good warm up session I have found my perfect balance between coming across the ball and the pulls.  But then on the first tee i have to remember all the steps and the ball usually goes high and right.

Exactly.  Use the first as a warm up hole.

This is the first time I've ever heard of this as well.  I've never really understood the concept of a breakfast ball either.  Doesn't really matter if I warm up or not.  I know my real score so why not just count everything?  Doesn't matter to me if anyone else does that though, one thing I think about golf is that not enough people just have fun with it.  My wife plays a lot of golf and I'm not sure she's kept score in 3+ years, sometimes she hits again, sometimes she just picks up, sometimes she skips a hole, etc, etc.  She absolutely loves to play golf and is, without a doubt, what I'd call an avid golfer.  There's plenty of room in the game for all types of attitudes around how to keep score/play.

RSinSG,  thanks for the information.   (I won't tell the cheap guy because before he brought the old balls then the wiffles, he used to walk out onto the range & collect a dozen range balls to use as warmup.  The rest of us would tell him he was essentially stealing, but as a member he felt entitled.)

That's just wrong.  Does he walk into the kitchen and grab a couple shrimp because he only wants a snack?  😆

Cristphoto,    you raise a valid point.    While the cheap guy doesn’t grab free food, the course has a policy of ‘free cup of coffee’ during a frost delay.   Sometimes we think he shows up during a guaranteed frost, has coffee,  waits 30 minutes,  then goes home.

There's a guy at my club that is frugal to the extreme. He'll show up and brag about the $20 pair of no-name golf shoes he just got. I decided to mess with him one day and told him about a web site I saw that sold x-out golf tees.  He wanted full information.

Inquire as to why the range is closed. Instead of complaining about it.

- Are they doing work on the range? You can work on the course around play but not the range. While it stinks for those who are inconvenienced their priority is to produce the best conditions for everyone and sometimes in is an inconvenience for some.

- Is it too wet to pick?

- Are they hand picking the range? Our range is too wet in the winter to get the range picker out there (I’ve had to grab a tractor and pull out the picker and the gator we sent to pull it out.) and they have to use shag bags to pick it.

Competition = warm up

non competition = who cares?

I care because I am always trying to lower my handicap.

My bad. Now that I re-read my post it sounded like a jack leg.

Each golfer is different. I’m over 50 and a low single digit. Don’t spend a lot of time on the range.
Definitely get your body loose to avoid injury.

I find warming up my short game is the best way to score.

if the putter gets warm everything else will follow.

Sure if I have time I’d like to hit 15-20 balls before playing, but it’s not entirely necessary for me. I do need to hit 5-10 putts just to get a feel for the greens that day, but besides that all I need to “get loose” is a couple times bending over and touching my toes, a few arm swings and I’m good to go. But I also stretch religiously everyday to maintain flexibility. Stretching everyday away from the golf course will 100% help your game more and prevent injuries than hitting range balls and doing some quick static stretches before the first. The range is to work on things. Before a round if I do hit range balls it’s a couple low pitch shots, a couple high pitch shots, a cut with a 7 iron, a draw with a 7 iron, a stock 3 iron, a stock 3 wood, a stock driver, and a get it in play driver. Head to first tee. I don’t really need it though and have played plenty of courses over the years that don’t even have a range. No big deal.
