Anyone else sick of winter and lousy weather??

OK, it goes without saying that even though I might actually like winter at times (skiing etc) I'm ready to start playing golf again.  Typically in a mild New England winter I can still play golf even in colder weather but this year has been pretty tough.  Between the extremely cold temperatures and the snow cover I haven't played in 2-3 months at this point and I really need to get out.  Probably only another 4-6 weeks until real golf starts, but I've had it with crappy weather and need to get out there.  Went to the range over the weekend and it was packed as I'm not the only one starving for golf.  Plus golf helps reduce the daily stress felt with work and family.  Anyone else feeling the pain and how are you dealing with it?

What's winter?

Oh... I remember. It's that awful stuff I moved away from as soon as I was out of college!

I used to never go play when the temp was under 55 and/or wet/sloppy.  This past year I am going out in the slop - cold - wet - nasty conditions.

I feel that my ballstriking is improving and when the weather warms up, when I can shed 2 layers, when there is grass under my ball vs mud - I will be killing it.

We'll see.

I absolutely hate cold weather. Snow? Forget it. I'm in Texas, and the misery 2 weeks ago has given me my fill of the white stuff for a lifetime. The year I spent in New Jersey was horrific for 4-5 months. I'd take 100 degree summer days year round over having to deal with even mid-30s for a month or two.

Managed to get a round in back in early December but the weather here in PA took a turn and then the snow came. And wouldn't leave! Until now! Now bright sunshine, temps are up, most of the snow is gone so looking forward to hitting the range and swinging those clubs again!

OMG this weather is not good for my mental health. I need my golf time for a whole lot of reasons, including just “free therapy”.

Add on to it that I had a swing breakthrough in December, went on a golf trip in January and played some of the best golf in my life, got all excited about the upcoming golf season...and I’ve barely touched a club in over a month and have lost some of my swing momentum and now need to get to the range to get it back (but can’t because of the crappy weather)!

Same as CoachCraigie.  Unusual to have an entire month here in PA that you can't play, but Feb. was it.  Getting back into it tomorrow (no doubt along with every other golfer in the Harrisburg area).  I have a net in my basement that I've been hitting into every day, so have still been swinging a club.  Whether or not that helped remains to be seen, but it kept me occupied anyway.  Heading to Florida to visit my boys in two weeks, so hopefully the weather down there doesn't do something stupid.

The older I get the more I dislike cold winters.  So the answer to the topic question is YES!

Are courses down your way opening soon? My dad lives in West Chester and is a member at French Creek, but I'm up in Scranton. We won't be opening for at least the rest of the month and probably longer, but if the courses down there open up soon, maybe I'll make the trek down there for a weekend.

If you are not a fan of foul weather, Portland might not be for you. I only golf when it's dry and it's actually dry quite a bit. But a lot of it is timing.

So far this winter there were 2 weeks of snow and a lot of rain. But other than the snow break, I haven't gone more than a week without playing. Getting 2 and 3 rounds a week as my schedule allows.

A few are open on Saturday I think. The course I normally play is opening Monday. Golf is back baby!

Is this a trick question? Where I'm at, the courses close from Mid October to April. Greens and fairways are decently playable in June/July, and then August/September are the best months in terms of course conditions.

So, yes I'm sick of the winter.

At least you guys have courses open where you are over there. We in the UK have to wait till the 28th march to play due to lockdown that the uk government put us under since December last year. As for winter golf we have very wet winters and it can do more damage than not. I’m more of a range guy during the winter. Though personally i haven't swung a club in nearly 5 months. Cant wait to get out and play when we finally freed.

I totally understand you, seems completely mad that you are not allowed out there at the minute. Seems to be more about the optics than the science.

Move to Texas. Sure we had one teensy winter storm and the state pretty much collapsed, but after a few days of "snow" I was back out on the course in short sleeves. People complain about the summers being hot and humid here in Houston (and they are), but it keeps the courses a bit more empty in peak season and when its 110*F you can hit some BOMBS. I make sure to send pictures of my sunny winter rounds to all my northern friends, which somehow they don't appreciate...
