On a more serious note I understand that Johnny Manziel has put his alcohol and drug abuse behind him. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which, while not excusing his previous drug and alcohol fueled life, does shed some light on a contributing factor.

 

Regardless of whether he ever plays professional golf (or football), I just hope he gets/keeps his life in order.

Can someone enlighten me on how this guy earns any income at the moment?  I’m assuming he snorted/shot up/drank/made it rain all of his nfl money. How is he living the next 12 years while trying to .... lol ..... make it on tour.

He made about 8 mil in the NFL and his parents are worth about 50 mil.

I’m not trying to hate on the guy. I’m glad he’s cleaned up his issues 

 

However, I feel like most people have this assumption that you can just become a pro golfer. It’s a bit disrespectful to the guys grinding it out for a living.

 

Next thing you know he’ll be getting sponsor invites to PGA events. No f*cking thanks on that one.

Anybody can self proclaim themselves a pro golfer, but they have to give up their amateur status. Then they can play professional golf on the mini-tours. A lot of mini-tours are glad to have more entries because of more money in the pot. There are some serious ringers at those events that win everything.

Point taken but you can't make it if you don't try and that's all he's indicating he's gonna do.  Giving himself a timeline of 12 years (which is kinda funny in itself) suggests he's under no illusions that it'll be either easy or that he'll even make it.  Many have tried and most have failed so the odds aren't on his side.  I would agree with you on the sponsor exemption part - that's entirely played out and not even interesting anymore.  So Johnny if you're gonna do it, do it the old fashioned way.

The number one barrier I’ve seen from stories is money and time. He has both. He is already an ultra talented athlete so I see no reason he can’t breakthrough.
