If you were a pro what would your schedule look like?

Recommended Posts

Let's say you are a pro golfer in the top 50 in world (qualified for all the Majors, WGC's, etc.) what would your tour schedule look like? You could play PGA or European tour only, play both tours whatever. Based on the current schedule and the courses I enjoy watching, mine would look like this (have actually thought this through):

Kapalua (if I qualify)

Palm Springs

Phoenix

Riviera

WGC Mexico

Players Championship

Honda

WGC Match Play

Masters

Harbor Town (underrated course)

Valspar

Quail Hollow

PGA Championship

Colonial

Memorial

US Open

Travelers (looks like a fun course)

Scottish Open

Open Championship

3M Open (hometown event)

WGC in Memphis

Fedex-Cup Playoffs

Safeway Open (for the wine in Napa)

Ryder Cup/Presidents Cup if I qualify

All 3 tournaments in Asia to finish the year off

If I was on tour I'd play as much as I could. I'd stay away from the Middle East unless they gave me an insane amount of money.  Would definitely avoid tournaments like Pebble and skip API (Honda looks way cooler on tv). Again this is just hypothetical

Hey, you’d be gone from the top 50 quick and wouldn’t fare well in the majors but at least you’d be drunk and get to wash down the quail and trout with some good vino for a year ; )

I’d play as little as I could to maintain proficiency, satisfy any sponsor requirements, and be sharp for majors.  As much as one-third would be on European tour courses for variety and travel with priority given to links courses.  I wouldn’t play WGC events unless held overseas.  I wouldn’t play in exhibition matches such as Ryder and Presidents Cups as they conflict with the opening of upland bird hunting and prime fly fishing seasons out West.

GolfWRX keyboard warriors would excoriate me for lacking killer instinct, being satisfied with big paychecks, etc.  They’d be partially right and The Mechanic and I would toast them with a fine Rioja from the Veranda at the Spanish Open.

Kapalua- In my golf fantasy life, I win on Tour at least once yearly so I will be there.

Palm Springs- I've played a lot of golf in the desert.

Torrey Pines- San Diego !, enough said.

Phoenix- I just want to play the 16th.

Pebble Beach- Love the Monterey area.

Riviera- Classic, old CA course.

WGC-Florida- Well it's a WGC, so I must go.

Players- Don't like Florida but it's not humid at this time of the year.

WGC-Texas- It's a WGC, so I must go.

Masters- Magnolia Lane

Quail Hollow- Neat course

PGA Championship- It's a major.

Memorial- I like the course.

Canadian - Who doesn't want to win the Canadian National Championship?

US Open- Not a fan of the USGA but it's a major and it's on the West Coast.

Travelers- I like the course.

Open Championship- Champion Golfer of the Year; it doesn't get better.

3M-Minnesota- I have a friend who lives in MN.

WGC-Tennessee- Fed Ex St Jude (donate my winnings to St Jude Hospital)

Wyndham- Fed Ex Playoffs

Northern Trust-"

BMW - "
Tour Championship-"

Safeway Open - I like Northern CA

Shriners (donate my winnings to Shriner's Hospital) and re-enact The Hangover.

I would not play in Asia or the Middle East; too far to go. I'd try as much as possible to stay out of Florida. I don't like Bermuda grass and I don't like most of the courses.

I'm heavy on the West Coast swing because I love CA. If the Barracuda was not opposite a WGC event, I'd go play that. Tahoe in the summer is amazing.

I believe I would stick to Euro Tour and majors. I know people love chasing the almighty dollar on the PGA Tour, but if I could make a more than comfortable living playing golf and traveling all over Europe, you can bet your sweet behind that’s where I’d be.

I would eventually come back to the states I’m sure, but the experience would be worth it for me.

I'd do the Brook Henderson schedule and make what I could, while I could.

I'd start the day with a few tweets and some hits to instagram, maybe read the sports section on my favorite feed, but not all of it - I'm too busy.  Then, off to the kitchen for a complicated energy drink and a conference call with the support team.   After being advised on how I should view myself and the view the day, I would go practice for a while.  Maybe 6-9 selfies and a few calls with club makers that want me to fly their brand.  My support staff would provide a script to turn them down.  I would try on new shoes for at least an hour and cast off the ones I don't like to the staff, that would jump after them like single women at a wedding trying to catch the bouquet.  As far as a playing schedule, I am not privy to stuff like that.  I would play in the Masters, US Open, British and PGA because, for no other reason, my support team told me I can contend and possibly win.

Put way too much thought into this. Fun exercise, lol. My schedule this year would look like this:

Tournament of Champions (Kapalua)

Abu Dhabi (Rolex Series)

Dubai

Riviera (LA)

WGC (Concession)

PLAYERS

WGC (Match Play)

Masters

Heritage (Harbour Town)

Quail Hollow (Charlotte)

PGA

Memorial (Murifield Village)

US Open

Irish Open

Scottish Open (Rolex Series)

The Open

Olympics

WGC (Memphis)

Northern Trust (FedEx Cup Playoff Event #1)

BMW (FedEx Cup Playoff Event #2)

Tour Championship/Italian Open*

BMW PGA (Rolex Series)

Ryder Cup

Alfred Dunhill

CJ Cup

WGC (Shanghai)

DP Tour Championship (Dubai)

- 27 events, including the Ryder Cup and Olympics, across two tours and multiple continents

- 4 majors, PLAYERS, 4 WGCs and 4 Rolex Series

- I'm not playing more than two weeks in a row until after the US Open, at which point 3 out of the 4 majors will have been contested. I want to be fresh for mid-March through mid-June, the heart of the season...

- Playing Irish Open, Scottish Open and The Open in successive weeks. If I'm planning on winning the Grand Slam, I think it's important to play a lot of links golf and get in a groove prior to The Open.

- Faced with a tough decision on whether to play in the Tour Championship and play for $15 million or elect to hop across the pond and play in the Italian Open. This would allow me to take some notes on Marco Simone GC in Rome, site of the 2023 Ryder Cup. I'm a team player.

I like your list however I would skip harbor town.  Played there once and it's brutal if you're not in the fairway.  20 yard wide fairways and plenty of dog legs not to mention tiny greens.  Lots of trees as well.  Ball striker's paradise.  If I were 22 like Sung Jae Im, I would probably play 90% of all the events I qualify for.

It looks like a fun course on tv, but you are screwed if you aren't a good driver. Great resort to celebrate my Masters win.

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
