Cleveland Zipcore Full-Face

Recommended Posts

  • 3 weeks later...

Just picked up a 58* on a whim, I got excited by the new Callaway Jaws hi-toe wedges that were released and then did some more research, I prefer Cleveland brand to TM and decided I really like the way these look.  Really looking forward to the new weapon!

I wish these were the initial launch. I have the zip cores but I would rather have these.. but it is not worth having both..

I went with the Zip Cores over these. If I could get the V Sole Mid Grind with the Heel Toe releif like the tour racks I just ordered I would've been all about the full face. But the single grind option was a no go for me on these guys.

Really like the looks of these.  Feel great in the bay but I want to him some outside.   Wish I could.  I need some demos of these.

have loved my GLIDE 3.0 and if they don’t announce some soon I’ll likely move to Zipcore.

I was using a PING Gorge Tour wedge from years back, it took me a little while to get used to the look of the hi-toe Full Face wedge.  I don't ever use a LW for full swings so I can't comment on that, but I hit a long bunker shot to a foot, several pitches and chips that spun and trickled out close to the pin exactly as I had envisioned them.  I have a lot of confidence in it now which is key for this type of club.

So I have played a round with the 60 now.  I will preface this that in the past, these full face higher toe wedges like the Hi Toe Taylormade Wedges and the PM grind wedges, I have struggled with more 3/4 and full shots.  They have just wanted to ride up the face and would go no where for me.  Was strange as they were pretty good around the green (PM grind I couldnt get to spin)

Ok now for the 60 Full Face Zipcore.  It looks better than the wedges above at address. For 9* of bounce, this sits pretty low to the ground.  I was disappointed when I saw it was 9* and then once I played with it, I am now ecstatic it is 9* and plays like it does.  The wedge is very good everywhere.  First hole I had 88 yds in so my concerns were going to be addressed immediately on if this was going to work for me or not.  Flew 88 yards no problem.  Beautiful ball flight.  The wedge is everywhere.  Rough, fairway, bunkers, etc.  There wasn't a single shot out there that I felt uncomfortable hitting with this thing.  I cant wait to get more rounds in with it as I think it is going to do wonders for my short game.  It just a fun wedge to hit and flat out performs.  My gut says it does spin a touch less than my zipcore low bounce 60 but it still checks and spins plenty.  I can easily see myself buying a few more of these wedges to just store away for when I wear these grooves out

If anyone has specific questions Id be happy to answer them!

How is the grind out of the bunker w/ firm and soft sand?

These do look awesome as I have played Cleveland Zipcore wedges in the past as I have mostly been a Vokey guy. I bought some ZX5 irons so I decided to give a try out for the RTX Full Face Zipcore 52* and 58*. The only real thing Vokey has going for them is all the different grinds and loft options. Plus a majority of the PGA Pro's use them which is a big selling point. Good Bye Vokey it has been a good run. Seems like more companies are going to full face as people may say its more of a gimmick but why is everyone starting to change as there must be some kinda of improvement over the previous models, so we will see.

Have had the 58* zip core full face in play for 7 weeks, and this is the best wedge I have had in many years of playing period.

The c grind and bounce is great. From greenside lies to bunkers, this wedge delivers performance. These Cleveland wedges deserve your consideration if you are looking for an upgrade.

The performance will change your perception of full face grooved wedges.

Update, just placed the 52*  full face in the bag . The performance has been very good. I am impressed with these Cleveland wedges.

  • 2 weeks later...

have been using it and practice few times with it

nice shape, the C grind helps to hit it higher, but does not help to launch it lower for me

maybe still adjusting with the shaft

for me it works better for full shot, but lost the versatility of lower bounce wedge around the green

but its stayin in the bag for now

I like mine so much.  I have hit the best bunker shots of my life with it.  I'm probably going to get a regular RTX Zipcore for a new 54*... I prefer the full bounce as I use that loft more for full swings.

I've been tinkering with a new 58* Zipcore and, sadly, I'm going back to my SM8.  Really love the Vokeys but was hopeful that the buzz around the Zipcore would push me to make a switch.  Just didn't work out.  Not a bash against Cleveland by any means but these just didn't work for me.  Feel off the face was "clicky"...not a soft feel like I expected and certainly not like the Vokeys.

I agree as well. While I love my zipcore wedges, didn't like the full face 60 I got in either the raw or chrome versions.

ok, now thats different

feel is different taste for everyone

for me, vokey always felt clicky

cleveland more medium

callaway forged and nike were soft

i think this could be attributed to the groove configuration as well

i notice the fullface have smaller more frequent groove, which means more void area

imagine hitting MB vs CB -- more meat = softer feel

my full face were bent 5 degree down to 59 degree lie, so the material is soft, but i do agree the feel is not as soft
