Low launch, lower spin side recommendation?

No such thing as side spin. There is only one spin axis. A ball that is lower spin will spin less regardless of its spin axis

Who mentioned side spin?

Regardless,  Pro V1, Z Star, and Tour BX are on the lower spin side for a low launch ball... With, in my opinion, the king of low launch/low spin being AVX.  But the trend for the very low spin balls is higher launching - TP5x, V1x Left Dash, and the new Chrome Soft X LS.

That said, you will find the difference on most clubs between a "low launch" and high launch" ball to be about a one to one and half degree launch difference.

Unfortunately they’re aren’t many low launch, low spin balls that keep compression up. AVX is great for it if you don’t over compress it. Left Dash is what I’m playing now and it launches on the higher side, lower than the regular V1x for me, but really keeps the spin down. I’m hoping the new Chrome Soft X LS spins the same or less, and drops launch even a little bit more.

Given that you want the exact opposite of what most players want, and with all due respect, can I ask why you want a ball that launches lower and spins less?  It is very hard for me to see the upside of such a ball.  Even the ball out there that do what you want (AVX and left dash) are only very marginally different in launch angles and spin rates.

IF your issue that you hit the ball too high and with too much spin, I don't think you'll find a golf ball that does more than a tiny "tweak" of that.  That has to be done thru the golf swing, just like much more common other side of the coin of needing to launch the ball higher and with more spin.

Yeah there are not many is what I am finding also. I think your right most people probably look for the opposite but I have plenty of swing speed and distance from my perspective (115 Driver ss) Yeah I am obviously coming in to the ball with a little open face causing alittle excess spin and cause the ball to launch higher then I would like but as I work on that swing issue I was hoping for a ball that might help out some. I might just go back to avx for now just seeing if I was missing anything out there that I might try.

Thanks

I play the Chrome Soft X and it's one of the lowest spinning balls I've played.  I can't wait for the Chrome Soft X LS to come out on the 18th.  You may want to give it a shot.  Cally claims that the ball lowers spin espeically with irons.

For me anyways,  I always look for the lowest launching and spinning ball simply because of my ss and ball speed along with the fact that I normally spin the ball a ton.  My driver set up is designed to launch low and get minimal spin anyways.  I don't want to see my drives getting more than 12 degrees of launch.  I play here in SoCal where it can get really windy because of the Santa Ana winds especially during the winter.  I look specifically for apex, spin, launch, and descent angle when choosing a ball.  You are right that there are marginal differences between low spin balls, however, every little bit counts IMO.

Bridgestone Tour BRX is lower spin and launch for me compared to most of the other premium balls.  The Titleist Tour Speed is also lower spin for me, but launches higher than the BRX.

Just tried the new Chrome Soft X LS.  It was pretty low launching, but spun more than the BRX and Tour Speed.

Now that is for my swing and clubs.  Your results may be different.

The AVX thing is just a mystery to me.  Tour pros hit the ball REALLY high, and generate a ton of spin, and yet none of them are using the AVX.

So if a ball that launches lower and spins less isn't a good ball for guys who launch it really high and generate a ton of spin, how in the world is it a good choice for players who launch it lower and spin it less.  I just don't get it.

All I can say is that for me, the AVX helped me recover some lost yards when I switched from C-taper to $-taper shafts for improved feel. I don’t have a tour swing; am a picker with more dynamic loft than optimal.

I can hit similar ball flight and distance with PV1 & C-taper as AVX & $-taper. Didn’t have to reprogram the brain for distances and bag gapping.

I played the AVX exclusively for the last two years and love the golf ball, when I switched to it, I was a high spin/high loft player who played a cut/slice. I could make it work, but lost a lot of distance. The AVX gave me a TON of distance off the irons, and the low spin, kept the slice more in check that any other golf ball. The distance came from the ball going further forward, and less right. This was the case with all irons and woods.

My game has changed a ton since then, and I no longer fight with a cut and put a ton of side spin on the golf ball. The ProV1 is perfect for me now.

But I will say, switching to the AVX allowed me to go from a 10 to a 6 in a few seasons.

I do really like the avx....but I tried the pro v1 left dash and I am going to stick with it for now really liking it. Flight is a little higher then the avx but has the the lower spin flight of the avx. There is no climb into the wind.  Probably my one complaint is the feel off the putter but I think I am just going to go back to a putter with a soft insert to fix that. See how it plays out as I work through this first dozen.

They don't play it because the greens they play on are so much firmer than the average green that the AVX just doesn't stop with the wedges on partial shots. They'll take the slight distance loss with the pro V1 for the extra short game control.

Yep.  60-70% of the guys on tour are considered "long enough".  Spin is the tour players' friend.  Sure a high knuckler goes farther than a drive that spins more, but they are more concerned with keeping it in or near the fairway.  As you mentioned, when it comes to approach shots, distance control is king.  Straight from the horses mouth.  I have a client and good friend who plays on the Mackenzie Tour.  Those were pretty much his exact words.

The last round I played was on a course with firm greens. With the left dash I could definitely tell there was a little less spin from wedges around the green but I did not see much difference from anything thing that was a full shot. That said I don’t think there was enough difference that you would not be able to judge the roll out better after a few rounds.
