Custom Fitting Question? Irons

I currently have Taylormade RAC LT irons they were my dads and a solid set of irons not fitted for me obviously so looking to change them. My question is go for a fitting and reshaft my current irons into my fitted specs or buy a new head looking at ZX7 but who knows what I could like? Is there really much of a difference between a 2021 head and the RAC LT irons. I like the look and shape of them so apart from that Is it worth roughly 700 euro more?

That's something to ask the fitter. I would think if you hit them ok, a shaft adjustment might be all you need. Of course I'm no expert, but I also play  what I like.

Get fit. See what your current irons do ha new irons. 
 

it will show you both what a change in shafts will do and what new heads will do... 

 

you’ll just be out the cost of a fitting if your old irons work and you’ll gain the knowledge of what your clubs do vs modern tech.

In the long run, not getting fit for irons could end up costing you a lot more.  Experimenting/trail and error with a bunch of irons and shafts can get very costly.  At least with a fitting you will know what works and what doesn't.

The RACs came out in 2003. Got good reviews then as a user-friendly club, and some still use them as an entry club.

 

When the RAC LT irons came out, many had graphite or Royal Precision Rifle shafts. What shafts do you have?

 

The RAC LT hosels are parallel tip (0.370 inches). This would limit somewhat the new shafts you could get, unless you get a taper tip shaft with shims (thin collars to make tighter fit). A good fitter can advise you on this.

 

Depending on the condition, used RAC LTs can sell in USA anywhere from $125 to $300. Do you want to spend ~ €450 to reshaft 20-year-old irons?

 

If you can afford it, you would probably do better to get fitted for new model such as ZX7. Hit some other models if you can, see what gives you good launch monitor numbers and a confident feeling over the ball.

 

Or, you might find an iron model a year or two old that fits your needs. (This might be easier at larger shops).

 

Here in USA, a standard golf shop can do a fitting for you, and get you factory clubs that don't cost much more than off-the-shelf. (This assumes you don't ask for super-upcharge shafts and ostrich-skin grips).

 

If you live in Europe or the UK, you likely had less golf club choice than here in the USA. So, where do you live and what golf shops can you visit?
