Totally agree, and i would actually go the other way and say how well i thought Westwood did, he clearly didn't have his best stuff but somehow got round even par for the day, the guy is 48 next month, probably doesn't practice as hard as the likes of JT and Bryson nowadays and basically took 2 of the best players in the world right to the wire in 2 weeks, actually beating Bryson this week

Thought he was great all week

you say how "well I thought Westwood did"......but then say "he clearly didn't have his best stuff"...which he did the other 3 days......then you say "the guy is 48 next month, probably doesn't practice as hard as the likes of JT and Bryson" which is making excuses for him. the only distinction is u are capturing WHY he choked....and you may have outlined it perfectly.

No way. I googled it yesterday and it does indeed list him at 5’7”. My money on definitely no more than 5’6” with his golf shoes on! Was thinking if he won we could legit say the trophy was ‘life size’! 🤣

the LEADER of the tournament had a 3 shot lead.....hit it into the woods and sand all day....shanked em off the hosel like a 20 hdcp player.... missed short putts.....the list goes on and on....he should have won but he succumbed to the pressure like 99% of people do....

sorry you dont like it but we all have our opinions and thats what makes for good discussions.....its not wrong, you just dont like it....and thats ok too.

Not wishing to sound awkward, as I said above, his driving was off all day so I don’t take any issue with him hitting it into the woods and the bunkers (although his best shot of the entire day came after hitting into the bunker on 14).

In terms of shanking them, I can’t actually remember him shanking anything. As it relates to missing short putts, seemed pretty solid over those all day. He actually made more of them I would have thought that he would have. The only one I can think of him missing was his 7-8 footer on 17. I can’t remember the exactly but I am pretty sure from that range in, we are talking about fifty fifty when it comes to making it on Tour. So missing it is not exactly choking.

He didnt play his best on sunday but still shot 72, he's mixing it with the best in the world at the age of nearly 48, in my eyes thats doing well, in fact its doing brilliant, to say he choked is just ridiculous, id love to know the average score for Sunday

he has been amazing.....doesnt change the fact he let the pressure eat him up down the stretch and made him hit bad shots all day.  finishing 2nd at the players is amazing...but imagine if he didnt let the pressure get to him?

Bryson and Lee Tee Shots

the best was seeing the network publish the speed of DeChambeaus tee shot that went 30 yards. Westwoods slice was unbelievable

One of the worst aspects of this forum is how so many deem a player who was in contention and didn't shoot lights-out in the final round to have "choked". It is very distasteful and very wrong. Use that term on someone like Doug Ghim yesterday if you must, who clearly was not up to the task of being in one of the late groups yesterday, but not someone who battled all day. I simply don't understand the mindset that makes so many here claim that all the time.

I wonder if it's kind of the same phenomenon as "reflected glory."  That is where people think when "their" team wins, that makes them a winner as well.  Except in this case, if they rip on a player, it makes them feel better about themselves.

Or it could just be a combination of listening too much to Paul Azinger with a side dish of Stephan A. Smith.  Can't just make a post observing things, it needs to be a "hot take."

I’ll bet there were still people the were envious of Bryson’s ball speed and he pretty much missed it 😂

Maybe its the same phenomenah as people getting all offended over an opinion? IDK...maybe its put out there for civil debate and discussion? but very few have the ability to discuss and would rather just point fingers at people or start arguments.....what does that say about them? these same people are probably a hoot when it comes to politics and religion....idk....maybe there is a connection there as well.

He had three shots out of sand(fairway and greenside) go pretty much at a 45 degree angle to his intended line.  Something mechanical had to be going on.  Ie his stance was a little too far forward or something.  It was of concern.

I'm not offended at all.  But the fact someone has to really go all in on choking suggests it's not a discussion, it's a hot take.  If it was Woods instead of Thomas who won would you be saying it was simply Woods intimidating Westwood into second place?

Reflected glory. When someone thinks they’re a winner because their guy or team won. That’s like every weekend during the NFL season! Haha.. Or here in the Bay Area when the A’s beat the Giants and I walk around with my A’s hat on acting like I hit the HR in the bottom of the 9th to win it!! 🤣

funny how B-hurt people get over opinions....lighten up francis....its just a discussion

id give anything to make 2.7 million over the last 2 weeks playing golf.....

Westwood walks away with that but also didnt play well at Bay hill in the final round.

You’re right he played great, BD played exceptionally well, in the final round of the API. Final round stroke average was almost 76 for Sunday this year.

I'll add to this......LW had 54 holes leads and didn't get it done in back 2 back weeks......whether it's choking or not playing well enough we gotta admit that THE MOMENT is getting in his head despite the new attitude with golf ......I love his new thoughts but you can't tell me he doesn't react to THE MOMENT......he's grinding harder and hanging in there BUT doesn't close in these MOMENTS.....not saying the choke term but certainly the inability to Close term.

Or 82.

Or 92.

Or 102...

Weren't you one of the people gatekeeping the Tiger Woods thread, and now you're here complaining about other's sensitives in a simple discussion? 🙄

One way I look at it is how did he do in relation to the field average?  His +1 final round at Bay Hill was way better than the field average that day on a day when only three -1 rounds were shot under par. I think he shot even yesterday and that is likely still a lot better than the field average. He's not choking in a Norman at Augusta sense or Doug Ghim as you pointed out. He played well in both instances - very well in the case of Bay Hill, just not good enough to win. Are we to label one person the winner and everybody else a choker around here?

if you are thinking a guy almost dying in a car wreck is the same as a guy finishing 2nd at the Players, you need to have a look at yourself...lol....thats hilarious.

Westwood shot the 3rd best score of the day in the final round. Better than most.

very true....he finished 2nd as we know...but he shot +1 in the final round and lost.....we all know he had back to back stellar tournaments....but he lost it on the last day late in the matches spraying it all over the course and missing makeabe putts....

2.6 million richer though....he was smart using his finance....10% caddie winnings stay in the family  🙂

Spot on.  Although, not necessarily a fan of the new attitude LW has.  Sure, it's all fine and great, you are nearly 48 years old, lower expectations, don't have to worry about the BPWAM title, just happy to be here...but that is not exactly a recipe for winning, is it?

Bottom line, it is pretty hard to win on PGA Tour at that age.  In the last 20 years anyone else besides Phil / DL III win at nearly 50?  I don't think so.
