I know, and MattyO1984 usually authors it.  The routine was broken.  I get it.

 

But I'm sure once the tournament kicks off, the same stuff will be discussed regardless of the title/author of the thread, right?

I wouldn’t mind if he’d yield the personal opines from the first post though. Report the facts then state your opinion. If you think I’da money grab great if you wave see Arnie highlights even better just for comment two

Me too. I don`t mind the that the greens weren`t true. How many of us have that privilege every round? It`s sure nice when you are putting on perfect greens, but last I checked the US Open isn`t supposed to be nice. And, like you said the cream seemed to rise to the top that week despite the conditions.

Ah, time for the faux major on a faux golf course. One good thing about this tourney is it means a real major is just weeks away.

 

As you can tell, not a fan of this course, but whatever, to each his own. They ruined a perfectly good Florida swamp when they built this place.

 

Having said all that, I still will watch. Gotta get value from my PGA Tour live investment.

Collin will be the low player in that group. This course is perfect for him, except for the fact that he can't hit his fade on 18.

I know this will probably get lost in the mix here, but serious questions about Sawgrass.  It seems to get a lot of negative attention, often called "gimmicky", etc. 

 

Is it because it's a Dye design and not a Tillinghast, Ross, or MacKenzie (old school famous)? 

Is it the island green 17th? 

If so, does 1 hole make an entire course gimmicky? 

Is an island green any more gimmicky than coffin bunkers or pot bunkers?

Do the Tour players hate the course, only playing it because of the purse, or do they like it?

 

Obviously opinions and tastes vary, so I'm genuinely curious.  After watching the detailed hole-by-hole above, it seems like a pretty sweet course.  I don't think it's resort course-y or gimmicky, but that's just me.

I hope you get some knowledgable and equally thoughtful feedback. My own attempts at seriousness haven’t gone over very well around here.  But there are some some smart and informed participants who occasionally share really good stuff on this forum, so I keep reading.

I think most of the "gimmicky" accusations stem from the 17th, and the fact that although many courses are made by moving a bunch of dirt around, it's a bit more obvious on some parts of this one.

 

I like it though, and don't mind having one course like this on Tour.  But just one of them mind you ☝️

Feel free to jump in @KRAMER1997! Being in the UK, I tend to be on here on a Monday morning a good few hours before most guys so I had just been doing it to be helpful (and to avoid work first thing on a Monday morning 😂).

I figure that by adding in a little opinion it might get a discussion going. I always though that posting a thread and then adding the first comment risked me coming across as self indulgent and whilst I am, I don't want to make it seem that obvious!

How so?  Not disagreeing with you necessarily, I'm not a good enough golfer to understand why someone might hold this opinion so genuinely curious.

Thought there would be more discussion about this here?   So, they did make a local rule?  Thoughts?    It seems like it's more about keeping the spirit of the course intact and not just because of his power.   Theoretically, couldn't a lot of guys go left of the water and have an easier shot in?

 

TBH, I'm surprised this kind of thing isn't done more often on a lot of courses where it seems like you could purposely hit into the wrong fairway.

Nice job on the major "bait", though, but it's just a really nice event with a fun and surprisingly diabolical hole (well, fans seem to think it's fun only if guys miss the green, haha) that's screwing with the schedule thanks to Tim Finchem.
