Hollow bodied 710 is a good starting point

Also, G700/710 bigger in all respects compared to the G425 irons and predecessors.  G710/Super Game Improvement.  G425/Game Improvement.  Not sure why exactly, but I demo'd the G700 irons out on the course, and could not hit them worth a lick.  I think just too big and clunky for me to game.  But others seem to love the G700/710.  Personally, I prefer G425 and i210, which are smaller to varying degrees, yet still very forgiving.  YMMV.

I just found a set on Carl's Golfland with my specs. Green Dots with the AWT 2.0 stiff. I bought a set of Mizuno HM's after selling my i200's, w/ AWT's,  at the beginning of the season. Very unhappy with the HM's unexpected rockets shots. Very inconsistent distances. I realize they are super game improvement irons but I couldn't dial them in. I play 4-5 times a week so I've put enough swings on them.

I called Carl's yesterday and spoke with Chad to confirm they actually had them in stock. Very surprising.... They shipped same day. Should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. Highly recommend Carl's Golfland.

i get that but is one supposed to be more forgiving than the other?

I hit both on launch monitor, same shaft, on 2 different occasions. Differences in ball flight and distance were negligible. Couldn't tell much difference in feel either. G425's had a better dispersion, so that's what I ordered. You should hit both too before buying, but it would be hard not to be happy with either set imo. Ping claims 710's are their longest and most forgiving, but the was not my experience.

Can G425 lie angles be bent?  I know Ping has some dot system for different lies...

Yes, but…

Most golf shops usually recommend sending them to Ping for lie/loft adjustments. Ping will adjust and even paint the dot with the appropriate color code. To my recollection, they’ll do a one time adjustment for free.

I'm seriously considering putting the F9 irons back in the bag. Maybe today was just not a good day, but it seems the F9 are longer.

With irons you want consistent distance, no ? If you want to hit it longer , club up. Or does the g425 leave a gap at the top end of your bag ?

Agreed.  Iron distance is the least of my concerns, unless it's my longest iron transitioning into my hybrid.  I'm more concerned about the iron I pull going the yardage I'm expecting it to, regardless of the number on the bottom.

And this is where the G425’s shine for me.  The distances are so consistent. I never have a hot crazy one that flies the green.  The only issue that I’ve had is getting really steep and coming down to hard with some of the short irons. It creates a lot of backspin and can launch too high and be 8-9 yards short. But smooth swings create the tightest dispersion I’ve had in a long time. I think it’s indicative of all the review videos too.

I see a couple GI irons come in different loft options.... I wish they came in different offset options!!

I play par golf but have had a bunch of injuries and cant practice much or want to swing that hard and would love some nice GI irons that had very little offset as some players dont need that kind of "help" just more forgiving and more distance would be cool

I try and like my own posts but can't figure out how...

planning to updte my steelhead xr to a new set. Either a srixon zx5 or G425 .. ill try both for sure . but anyone tried them oustside ? how do they compare .. and delivery time is not an issue for me now

Hello I believe the ZX4 is a closer match to the G425's.  Think the ZX5's although forgiving, less so than the 4's.

I just returned them to Dicks. The distance claims never materialized for me. They are accurate and if distance doesn't matter, then they are great irons. I just find the F9 just as good and longer. The G425 remind me of my G series irons.

Here’s hoping that it’s the end of this saga.

Nope, I found out it wasn't the Pings at all, but I am losing sight in my right eye. I guess this caused a loss of vision that made it hard to contact the ball properly. Now I am struggling with all my clubs. My deepest apologies to the Karsten fan base, G425 irons are just fine.

Just received my G425 irons order.  A little under two months from ordering to receiving, so obviously silly wait in general, but not terrible for recent Ping.  Took them out for their maiden 9 hole voyage last evening, and love them.  Per my fitting, Steelfiber i110 stiff work very well with these heads.  And it’s just great for me to be back in Ping G-series irons, which have been my stalwart for years, but I had gone away from for awhile.
