SteelFiber 115fc shafts yea or nay?

Recommended Posts

I've played them for 3 years in Honma 737 VS's.

Pros - smooth, not too spinny, can flight them, but also hoist them if needed. Also, they're a little lighter than tour weights for those of us that carry a bunch.  Obviously easy on the joints vs steel.

Cons - can be a little light if you're coming from heavy weight steel.

I say go for them!

Came from 110s and enjoying them very much.

Only con, they aren't the black label and they are pricey.. Even for pulls

I have played modus 120x, 130s and 125x as well as spb stiffs in the past.  For me, these spun the same or less, but I'm not an extremely spinny guy.  115 FC don't balloon for me unless it's REALLY into the wind.  Of course, I play like a sissy and am happy to take extra club and knock one down. Dispersion is tighter with these for me.  Could be that I'm better in slightly lighter shafts.

107 to 109 mph driver indoors.  Could be more outside, but never tested.

What flex are you playing in the Steelfibers 115fc?

first poster mentioned theyre not a good fit if you're coming form a heavier shaft which I agree with 100%. I was actually fit in to 115fc x by club champion and I could not get rid of them fast enough. Very active tip and my timing was constantly off (more of a me problem then the shaft problem I guess)

but looks like youre coming from a lighter modus shaft so you should have a smooth transition

I did see ball speed increase and spin stayed around what im used to. Indoor fitting these were definitely the best shafts ive ever had from a dispersion and distance perspective. but that didnt last long once I got them outside. Saw a much higher flight and I couldnt control them for the life of me. went back to a stiffer tip shaft and my dispersion immediately tightened back up

Like Modus, these shafts are either love or hate. If you like Modus 105x then id suggest trying 115fc in stiff

To me they feel on par in the shorter irons and progressively softer.  But they don't ever feel loose to me.  I'm 90-91 mph with a 7 iron.  Smooth - medium transition.  But once again, I don't mind a lighter shaft.

I've heard the non-FC steefibers play stiffer (even in the short irons) , but I haven't hit them.

i think the flight control stretching it a  bit

all it is is parallel shafts trimmed at 5/8th and not 4/8th

way softer than the  I95s?

It's noticeably softer than the i-series - although how significant is going to be very subjective.  But to me the "flight control" (difference in feel between the short and long irons) wasn't noticeable at all - which is fine by me.  I like the FC's because they have a softer profile in general compared to the i-series.  And IMO, trying to control flight with shaft stiffness is a poor way to manage and choose shaft stiffness anyways.

There probably is more flighting in the taper tip fc115cw shafts vs the parallel tips with 5/8 tip trim progression.

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit from the OP but think my questions will be relevant. Also looking at Steelfiber (medical issues).

Currently play X100 in my MP5's so 130g plus I play them 1 inch over. Wanting to look at 115s and 125s in my wedges.

Sounds like one might struggle with the weight? Would you play them in F4 or F5 (think thats Aerotech speak for S and X) I hear the X is pretty stout... How do these parameters change from the normal 115 vs the flight control version? if at all.

Thanks and apologies if there is some hijacking from the OP.

I play 115 and the 125s. Like mentioned, would agree these play a bit softer than the 110. If you're good with your x, then I'd probably go with the f5

With an 82mph 7 iron,  moderate tempo, early release, short of parallel backswing:  115fc stiff be too much club?

Favorite shafts have been c taper and PX, but I need to go back to graphite.  The i110 just doesn't work for me.  I make center contact with CT and PX, but I'm all over the face with the i110.

Never comfortable saying this would work for someone but, sounds quite similar to my swing and I'm f4 through gw 125r in sw and lw

F4 in the 115fc?

Are you a high launch/spin player?  I can't flirt with anything that will increase my spin.  Its a swing fault, but I own it.

From an objective standpoint, there is no such thing as "too much club."   There is no ideal or certain amount that the club needs to load during the swing or any benefits from the loading.   It's completely about the players interpretation of the feel that might determine if it's too stiff.     So sorry to say the only way to answer that is to test one out and see how it feels.

P.S.  the i110 is a high balance point club - did you check the swing weight on it?  It's possible that the problem wasn't the stiffness if the builder didn't properly consider the effect of the balance point on the swing weight.  Did it feel too stiff?

The i110 felt stiff.  I will have to go back and ask about swingweight.
