Tour is ever inching towards MLB circa '98

I'm stating this as an opinion:

The Tour is chasing distance ala MLB '98 and using Bryson as the poster boy.....and we all know how it ended with MLB

I absolutely love Bryson- but I'm seeing gym signs that I'm not comfortable with.

This isn't going to end well IMO

Yeah, but in golf you still have to have a plus short game to compete. You can drive it 400 yards, but if you are terrible with the wedge and putter you won't last. Golf isn't one dimensional.

Not really sure what you're hinting at? Steroids? Or just distance in general? If it's steroids anyone who even half dedicates themselves to working out (especially weight training) and proper nutrition can add muscle mass and bodyweight naturally, let alone at the dedication levels BAD has. The fact many of the modern PGA players treat the sport for what it is, a sport, and prioritizes fitness along with the golf game doesn't automatically equate to PED's playing a role. This isn't the PGA of yesteryear and too often it seems like TV announcers and many members here still think golfers should have a healthy beer gut and a couple chins otherwise something suspicious is going on. Nothing about BAD, Rory, Brooks, old Tiger, or anyone else even hints at anything other than having a good training regimen and added speed and distance is just a natural result of that.

Tiger went south pretty quick

Brooks has knee problems - both him & Bryson are perfect examples for my scenario

I understand 25yrs old being prime athletics peak as well

His PRP doc who was smuggling steroids doesn't even hint that that?

What even is your scenario? Your first post was vague and cryptic. Working out doesn't mean injury proof, it means more speed and power when you are healthy which explains the added distance.

MLB is chasing distance now.  Homeruns are up.  Base hits are down.  Strikeouts are way up.  The game has changed and not for the better.  The NBA is changing as well.  Teams chuck up threes like never before.

Thankfully, they stayed with wood bats.  Would have been interesting to see golf without spring face titanium.  They could have cut it off in '97 or '98 after Woods won the Masters with his Cobra steel driver

My guess is he is doing all sorts of things to enhance his performance, including supplements.  With all the attention he is getting I would be highly surprised if he was taking anything on the banned substance list.  I'm not sure what is on the list the PGA tour uses, but Bryson is working his butt off, and if anything he is taking is allowing his body to recover faster it seems to be working.

I just don't see PGA tour players being called before a special committee in congress and being subpoenaed to testify.   It will certainly inspire more people to go this route, golfers will end up training more like baseball players than traditional golfers, but ya still gotta have a short game.

I don’t think any players would say no to chasing distance. Everyone wants to hit it a lil further. Tiger went to the gym and hit it over 300 20 years ago. Rory has been hitting the gym and carried the ball for miles way before Bryson did.
Bryson just took a different and more scientific approach to distance, which is a hybrid of a long drive contestant and a pro golfer. I don't see anything wrong with chasing distance the way Bryson does it. All credits to him if he can send it straight to the moon.

We all know it’s the Class Acts Tour.  No one uses PEDs and no one uses illegal equipment...

Except that time that Xander’s driver was deemed over the limit.

It’s amazing what you discover when you actually test for it.  How often are the Tour testing for PEDs?

The sad part will be the short careers. All the big hitters now are getting hurt and will not play as long, we won’t have as many stars making it to the champions tour. Players will flame out from injuries way more often. There was something so classy about the way golfers aged, won’t be that way any more.

The Tour has gone full distance propaganda ala MLB '98.....and they knew what those guys were doing

Bryson & Brooks are the poster boys now and the Tour knows as well.

Did I miss something?

I will add to this that he was quoted as saying he wants to live for a long, long time. Taking steroids would be the last thing, I would do if that was one of my goals. If you want explosive power and your goal window is tiny, like sprinting, I can see taking something likes that, but there are healthier ways nowadays - and I would think with the possibility of participating in an Olympics, one wouldn`t risk the embarrassment.
