Evnroll ER2 “ting” sound and heavy feel

jozner954

Recommended Posts

After much research and testing, I finally pulled the trigger on an Evnroll ER2 (370g).

While I love the look of it at setup, I’m not so thrilled with the feel. It feels like a metallic, ting off the face, and I just can’t get used to it.

Also, the club just feels way too heavy (it’s got the gravity grip on it)

Overall something just doesn’t feel right. I already had it cut down from 34in to 33.5, so I can’t return it to golf galaxy. I played it the other day and just had no confidence on putts longer than 10 feet. Should I remove the grip for something lighter?

I’m using Srixon Z Star XVs and ProV1s. Could it be the golf ball causing it to sound this way? And is there a way to reduce the weight of the club without cutting it down any further?

I really want to like it, but it just feels really clunky and the sound kills my confidence.

Re: distance control, that's something I really struggled with for a while. I have a similar putter - a 370g, 34" ER2B with Gravity Grip. And by "struggled with distance control for a while" I mean "very nearly sold it" because it took months. I don't know why, but I just couldn't get pace even close to consistently right. It was great on carpet but woeful out on the course.

But then one day, it just clicked. I don't know why, and I didn't really do anything that day that I hadn't done before. I've been putting really well from all ranges lately, and pace control has been on point.

The sound and feel is pretty good for me - I don't get the "ting." More like a solid "tap" sound. At least, I think so. I know what I'll be listening for next time I'm out on the course...

Honestly this all sounds exactly what my experience was like w/ the ER5 I bought. Wanted to love it, couldn't get over the sound/feel and felt like I had to hammer every putt to get it to the hole. Sold it.

I also have an ER2 in the 370 gram. I'll echo what others have said, this putter takes a little longer to get used to for distance control, but once dialed in, it's hard to beat. I think people don't give it enough time for the adjustment and end up selling it as a result. I think we've gotten used to immediate gratification and therefore think the putter doesn't work for us and sell it to soon before we give it time to adjust. Remember It is a new putter after all.

I also have the ER2. I've never noticed a "ting" sound. I was using a TM Del Monte - now that one "tinged".

I do not think I have the gravity grip, just the standard red/white one.

I have been playing with the Srixon Q Star Tour and the Titleist Tour Soft.

I feel like I can make any putt I attempt with this putter. Just takes getting used to.

I recently purchased one to try out given all of the positive reviews.  The first few rounds were pretty rough and I had trouble with distance control and alignment.  The ting sound seems to come and go.  I don't particularly mind that part.

After I read that putts from the sweet spot purposefully do not travel as far due to the spacing in the grooves I think I was able to dial it in better.  I'm not sure it will stay in my bag but I've made some good putts with it and believe the science behind the groove spacing probably does help with distance control on off-center strikes.

Had both ER2 and ER5.

In terms of the "tingy" sound, ER5 was much worse to the level of unbearable.

ER2 was better but as many said distance control was not easy with occasional overshoots...

I was the opposite - if I tried to putt with it the same as I putted with my prior putter, the ball would sail past the hole... and keep going. After 10 years with the old putter, it was a serious adjustment to make!

Fully agree.  Evnroll hits so many boxes, but the sound box is not one of them.  Had one a while back and sold it specifically because of the sound.  In indoor shops, acoustics can be deceiving.  Always try a putter outside, if you are able.

Almost pulled the trigger on a PLD Prime Tyne because I’ve love that shape for a long time but never wanted to mushy feel of the sigma inserts.  But last week I stroked one at a golf shop and it really sounds like it would be too tingy.  Again, hard to know the exact outdoor acoustics from a shop, but I just have a feeling it’s metallic and high pitched.

I’m a huge sound guy, started at least a few threads on this in the past.

Yes. Heavy, which is okay BUT they feel/sound terrible. I also found they felt a bit chunky? Like I had to hit the ball just a tiny bit harder than another putter.

I use the ER2 as well. It definitely has that ping sound, but for me the feel outweighs it. The feel is off the chart. My judgement in speed has gotten much better since the ER2 has been put in the bag. I don’t think  I sink as many bombs with it as I did with my Spider, but my second putts are usually tap ins. I’lll take that over 4 or 5 knee knockers each round.

Until you brought it up, I had forgotten about it. I guess I got used to it. I’m always looking for equipment in true WRX style, but I’d be hard pressed to replace my ER2. Maybe in a different color scheme?

Definitely ditch the gravity grip for something lighter. I have an ER8 and no ting sound at all.  Actually the opposite as mine is very dull for sound and much less feel than any putter I’ve ever played. BUT nothing has given me the distance control like this Evnroll.  Just switch the grip and you’ll start playing well with it.  Performance over feel or sound every time.

Not knowing much about evnroll and being a lousy putter I saw a evnroll zero putter at GG and I am one who goes for the different and weird looking things.

That had a putting mat set  up about 18 ft with a tiny hole to putt at next to a regulation hole.I made 6 out of seven putts in the little hole and i tried other putters in the store and did not make one.

I bought it with some gift certificates and some cash as I never payed that much for a putter,I played with it this weekend and made more putts that I have ever made so it’s a keeper so far.As for as sound goes I did not hear any sound  off the club face.

I had an ER1 and I was never a fan of the sound or feel. I wanted to like it because I believed in the technology on the face but it just never worked for me. Distance control was very poor for me with that model. I have rolled an ER5 in stores and it definitely seems to make a difference sound at contact than the other models.

I have an Evnroll ER1, ER7, and ER8. The ER 1 definitely has a more tingy sound that the mallets don’t, and does not feel as solid as the two mallets do. Maybe it’s a geometry thing
