Nice.....Blast from the past those 😉

I remember these very clearly. Not sure if I ever used them or not. **Would they have been ‘competing’ against Titleist’s HP2 / HP2 Tour.....or are they earlier than that ?

Maxfli HT 100 Balata it wound Maxfli Revolution.  The solid Revolution sucked.   The HT was played by a lot of top guys back in the day.

Same time I believe. I played these in the mid 90's. Liked the "click" they produced when I hit them, plus I didn't rip them back off the green with wedges.

The thought that comes to mind whenever the Revolution Solid is mentioned, is a line from the revered philosopher, Homer J Simpson:  "Let us never speak of it again"

Can't pick one, but a few stand out above the rest:

Titleist ProV1(x) - The performance and consistency cannot be denied. Feels like a high performance golf ball should feel.

Wilson FG Tour - The version which came from the "Proto B". Perfomed like the ProV1, but I liked its slightly lower, flatter trajectory.

Bridgestone B330 (Hydrocore) - Best wind ball I have played. Almost impossible to get this ball to balloon. Another excellent performer, with my preferred lower, flatter trajectory.

Kirkland Tour Performance - A legend since its launch in 2016. The K-Sig continues to impact the golf world's price/performance expectations and its successor is one of the most anticipated golf ball releases in recent memory.

The U-Tri Tour!  Oh wow...

For those still looking for the Nike RZN, if you have a Dunham's near you, look for some labeled "practice" in bagged dozens for $12 each.  They would get as low as $7.99 when on sale.  Platinum and Black...

Dating myself but the original Spalding Tour Edition that Norman played was awesome.  Fond memories of that and my Yonex ADX driver. 👨‍🦳

I remember that ball as being dead, lol at least 10 yards shorter than a Titleist. It was as I recall the first solid performance ball. It could be thought of as the ball that changed the ball.

Hogan 392 LS

Design by Titleist, different name and it performed for its day.

ProV1*

My first ProV purchased and was very high performance except it seemed to find the woods at an alarming rate🤣

Wilson SmartCore series

The last balata ball I played and was a damn good ball. The spin version was nearly the same and much more durable of course .

I used to like the Smartcore series back in the early 00's, too, but I didn't think they were a balata. Was the green box "spin distance" balata?

As I remember the strait distance was blue, the spin was green and balata was a yellow/gold color.

Maxfli M3.  I really liked those things.  A lot.  Probably one of the reasons I chase feel in a golfball these days.

Honorable mention category:  Precept U-Tri Extra Spin.

The U-Tri Extra Spin was the forgotten portion of that product line.  I found it to be a ridiculous ball, completely fit my game at the time.  It was essentially the TP5x before the TP5x was a glimmer within a dream.  I gained a club and a half with my irons with that ball, and <poof> it was gone.

That precept ball was awesome.  I also liked the Nike TA DD.  David Duval model.  In that era I wasn’t a ProV fan, but over time I think they eventually came up with the best product.

This thread delivers.

I laughed out loud very loudly at the "just don't ask me any names reply." Exactly.

It's way too obvious, but I have some very fond memories of the first time I played on my (Division III) college team and they provided us with free Titleist Balatas. Yes, they didn't stay round for more than 3 holes, and they didn't go that far off the long clubs, and if you hit a wedge thin it was all over...but there was just NOTHING like the green side feel. The ball was just so soft you felt like you could do anything with it.

Just played some Snell MTB Blacks for the first time yesterday and it is amazing how good a $30/dozen golf ball can be. I played 18 holes with it, bounced it off two cart paths and smashed into one tree, but it looked new at the end of the round; hit it low, hit it high; hit a one-bounce-and bitelob wedge in from 30 yards that was a thing of beauty; and hit a 4-iron out of the rough that stopped 6 inches past the ball mark. Just incredible. Seemed just as soft and controllable as the Srixon Z-stars I've been playing, but longer off the tee; WAY more durable, and I don't have to hunt for deals to pay a fair price.

Callaway HX Tour 56 and Tour i. They remind me of playing with my buddies as a junior/in high school and those were some awesome times. Also some of the softest balls I ever played, but durability was an issue especially with the massive pre-ban box grooves circa 2008. Anyone who played the original Callaway X tour wedges with the first generation MD grooves knows what I'm talking about.

Maybe about 20/25 years ago I played both the Precept Extra-Spin and the Maxfli XS Tour balls. Both were two piece soft surlyn covered models.  A handful of tour pros played both.  They had a great feel, good distance and spin, were durable, and were only a couple dollars more than the low end balls.  Great value and performance balance.
