The Titleist professional was THE ball when I was growing up. Then came the Maxifli Revolution.  

 

The Precept Lady/Ladde was the first solid core ball I played with regularity but the first one that made me say wow that's different was the first gen proV1x.  

 

I'm very excited to try the 21 tp5x as it seems someone was listening to all my nitpicking over the last few years.

The original Srixon AD333....an International Golf Magazine did a ball test and found that it had driver/8 iron spin characteristics that fell between the Pro V1/Pro V1x

for $24

 

Plus a seam that you could set on a tee according to the wind direction

I played some of my best golf with the Callaway HX Red. At that time it was longer than anything I had ever played, yet still had great spin inside 100yds.

Really loved the Taylormade LDP Black range.  Just the right amount of spin, feel, softness for me.  Also, seemed to cut through the windier spring weather nicely as well.

OG Maxfli Rev 90. I was a Freddy guy back in the day, so I played it along with an original Kevin Burns 9303. Nothing has ever felt better.

 

Runner up would be the TM Lethal.

Depends. Most balls today are the best balls ever, but for its time, the titleist professional was so much better than all its competitors.

Callaway Tour ix.   I also loved the Pro V1's from 2003-06.  Just an absolutely indestructible ball that could do everything.  I think they changed the cover formulation around 2007 and the ball started to actually scuff.  The prior versions were tough as nails.

Aren't they also like 15 year sold.  That sleeve has some shelf wear to it.

They're pretty old, but had never been hit and were sitting in a closet in a spare bedroom.

I miss the plastic sleeve containers that used to come with TaylorMade golf balls.  I kept those when I had them and store balls in them (in my bag) to this day.  They had the greatest packaging ever.

There was also another TM ball that used these (I think the Tour Distance--it came in a  red box).  I would consider buying these just for the plastic sleeves.  Prescription bottles with the larger mouth opening also work well.

The generation after it was crap.  Haven't tried a bridgestone since.  

 

I was playing coach-provided ProV's in high school at that time and found a B330-S on our course. I tried it out and it was like everyone had been lying to me. This was the number one ball in golf, no doubt about it. It flew off the driver, it stuck into greens. I played that single ball for 3 rounds or so until I lost it. For whatever reason they were really rare in my area. I always joked "You'll never find a B330, few play them, and we who do are too good to lose them"

 

Whenever I found one it was like a mini-christmas.

 

To the OP, the other ball would be the HX Hot Bite. I wanted them when I was just about old enough to afford something like golf balls for the first time. So I got them and boy were they better than Top Flite XLs

I thought the Maxfli U4 was a great ball and used it till they stopped selling it.

Titleist Tour 100 compression balata ball.  I absolutely loved the control I had with this ball as well how soft it felt with a putter.

I still have a few but they have lost compression.  I use my stock to hit my persimmon woods off the tee.

Wow...love the persimmon collection, especially the Woods Brother driver. Always wanted one of those way back when...I only have 2 left..a MacGregor Tourney and a Cleveland Classic that Roger Cleveland made for me.

I have one Wood Brothers Texan and it was made for Gene Sauers.  I'd love to have more Wood Brothers.  Most of my collection are 1950s era MacGregors.  I have three Joe Powell made for tour woods, three or four Cleveland Classics and a custom driver my old club restoration person made for me back in 1992/1993.
