Not a bad thing

Agreed. Kind of a slimmed-down i210 with Mizuno's feel? I would pay i59 money for that.

Will there be a significant ball speed difference between the 225 and the fli-hi in the 2-3 irons? Or is the difference more about shape, height, and shaft options?

will the 225 be similar to the forged in terms of forgiveness . Or in other words will it be more forgiving than the mmc (not saying that the mmc were not forgiving)

I believe the 225 will be just as forgiving as the HMB in a smaller package. But I look forward to the next Mizuno vid.

everyone is saying the 221 is more compact but when I saw the photo of them in Rose's bag, the short iron soles looked a little chunky just like mp20.

You just don't know until you have them in your hand ... but I get it. Although everything is supposedly slimmed down. But slimming down may only mean a millimeter or two.

right, I agree. Mizuno hasn't really had slim soles on their blades, I had the mp32's and the soles were a little chunky on the short irons for a blade. They do this for feel but they have always got slammed on the short iron look because of this. One of the reasons I lean towards titleist blades, those are gorgeous short irons

Typically, at least in several of their irons, Mizuno irons have little bounce. They make up for it it, I assume, with slightly wider soles. Looking at my HMB, when you look at the sole, at first glance it appears "chunky," but they grind the trailing edge, making the effective sole narrower. Perhaps that is their philosophy. Someone should ask that question in the next Mizuno presentation of the MP22 Line.

As a Ping homer, sounds great. I was hoping for a slimmer sole but I’m thinking these are going to look amazing in hand. Wondering how they will compare with the ZX7.

Also very intrigued by this. Going into fall was almost 100% sure I'd be picking up some ZX7s but these have my attention.

Thats kinda how the Taylormade  p 730 irons were. Short blade length, thin topline but the sole was kinda fat and sharp leading edge. Was weird

My 16 Bridgestone x-cb are like this as well. I enjoy the launch I get, saw over 1.41 smash with my 6iron at club champion last year with them, they haven’t left my bag for a while.

I can go thinner soles, but you can only do so much with a 1pc forging.

most CB's are like that really, they typically don't have a MB thin sole. Iblade, ap2 variations past few years are all like that.

Today I had the 223’s in my hands and was shocked at how wide the sole was. We’re talking GI iron width. (This was a 7 iron.)I held it next to a T100s 7 iron and it was startling. I then held it up against the ‘21 MMC head, and again, the 223 looked like a shovel. I had assumed the 223 was the MMC replacement and was meant to go against the T100s and i59s, but no way. Perhaps Mizuno has other ideas for the 223, but I figured it was a players iron…it is not. No pix , sorry. But if you’re thinking this is cleaner, updated MMC, players/players distance iron, with that fat a** sole, you’ll be disappointed.

^^^ I'm after a bit higher launch so that fat-azz sole might be the ticket.

Do they have some trailing edge relief on the sole like they have on the MP20 HMBs. I think you've got to account for everything. They want weight at that location for a reason and they give you trailing edge relief (usually) to have it play like a thinner sole.

I'm not a big believer in prejudgments without hitting the club, so I kind of stay to the sidelines until I hit it. But everyone is different.

    • Sony Open Pics from January 11, 2022 Part 1
I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
