Even so, thats really interesting, pushing mass that far back on an mb. Not sure what that does in terms of performance, or what their aiming to achieve with that. Moi?

not sure but mizuno hasn’t really made classic looking blades for awhile now. Chris Voshell is always trying to do something with them and they have trended on the bigger side.

I'm sure. The 223 is not their true MB blade -- that's the 221 -- so with this one they're trying to match/exceed the COR numbers of the MMC but in a more compact design. I'm guessing it's an identical footprint to the MB heel to toe, but beefier from front to back to increase the perimeter mass and manipulate launch characteristics.

It looks great to me. I play the MP-20 blades but the 223s definitely have my attention.

It probably the perspective of the picture but the sole on the 6 and 7 look way wider than the 8 and 9.

Makes sense to have a little wider sole through 7i, I think. They do need some space for that trough-slot they mill from the sole up and then cover

Yea but if you go look at the 221 it has the same beefiness in that sole that the 223 does, especially the short irons. Thats what i was initially talking about.

The new 223 is looking so freakin' good to me. It's almost criminal that it looks like they will be released in the dead of winter!

My final thought is... i dont like the 223 or 225 i think it is? The 221s are nice... still the script is awful. I know this is picky but if they removed the first line before the m starts it would look alot cleaner. Maybe even make the letters smaller.

It definitely looks like the sole is beveled quite a bit on the trailing edge of both the 221 and 223.  While there appears to be quite a bit of mass near the sole, they both will effectively (in theory) play similarly through the turf if you look at both the 221 (from Keith Mitchell's WITB) and the 223 (from R.S.'s).  It also looks like the top line is beveled to make it look thinner from address despite the thickness shown on the photos looking face-on.

I like everything about the 223 that has been spilling out, from Vosh's info to these photos.  Some help in the long/mid irons to more of a blade/MB in the short irons.  It looks a lot like an "updated" MP-64 with some added launch in the longer clubs.  Count me in to giving these a very serious look when more info is released and we can get them in hand.

Is the club number lasered onto all of the HMB irons?  I feel that will fade or wear off over time.

Yes, and my opinion is that it's not good.

I am having a hard time understanding why the 225s go to the 2 iron when they have the new fli hi driving irons coming in the same (I assume release)? is a customary 2 iron more versatile than the fli hi? I am interested the 225s 4-pw and a fli hi 3.

Titleist is doing it with the t200s. They even offer a utility build option. I would rather have the 225 2 iron than they bulky driving iron.

Two Things: 1. The clubs are 100% JUST FINE. 2. The "Mizuno Pro"  and meaningless "22x" designations are just terrible, even from just a visual standpoint - just look at that 223 - so much going on there and none of which are commensurate. Just so random in stamping/branding. Nothing works except for the running bird which is what they were supposedly going for at the launch of the MP-20 line (ala Nike Swoosh)... and which was working. Now, it's just one of a bunch of stuff on an otherwise nice and supposed-to-be-clean players club. Ugg, just awful.

Mark my words, next launch this will be dumped as a "one off" salute to the past or something marketing-y. Looking at them, they're similar to Callaway drivers - they're all over the place visually. You've the "Callaway" script, then the chevron someplace, then some modern iteration of "Epic" or "Rogue" or "Dude Awesome" or something, along with some stripes and cockeyed graphics. There's no flow, no cohesion, no.... class. Now admittedly, that's an extreme take from an unrelated club, but it does help illustrate how these soulless 221, 223, 225, 22whatever clubs, while still Mizuno and probably most likely will feel and perform just as well as any prior branded MP, are just not MP enough with this shift in branding - which matters! We're not pros who don't give a rat's a** what's on the back because we're making bank simply by making the cut. We're hobbyists and enthusiasts - all this stuff matters. So there's a disconnect. It looks lazy, un-thought-out, or really probably something birthed from a committee having monthly meetings over Zoom.

I think thats a bit knee jerky. They will do fine. Im not a fan of these, but havent really been a fan of any of the mizuno irons for at least 12 years now (bigger bladelengths, thicker toplines, more offset than other blades to name a few reasons) But, there are a lot of people who love the newer stuff.

And lets be honest, How the back looks only matters to a few people..and if thats how you choose what you play…

I can’t say I’m as adamant about disliking the design as you are, but I do hear what you’re saying here. The Mizuno bird is perfect — Iess-is-more branding that relies on the bird alone is exactly where they need to be going. I understand them having numbers on the back to make the models easy to identify years from now and for non-WRXers who aren’t as gear-obsessed, but the modern font of the numbers vs. the classic Mizuno Pro font is a weird and unnecessary disconnect. Somebody needed to tell them that this wasn’t the right release for the Mizuno Pro script.

(… Whatever though, I’m still gonna buy the 223s and will probably love them.)

I was planning to get new irons next year and for the first time in a while it looks like it won’t be Mizunos.  I just do not like the look of these.  The new T100s look so much better to my eye.

Good luck with that...

You are quite fastidious. Curious what irons you deem worthy and are currently in your bag?

Right, yours is an extreme take.

I don't give high priority as  to what is on the back of a club.  If it were me, I would only label it with the running bird and the script but I'm not marketing a world wide brand. My Bottom Line is whether the club fits my eye at address and performs for me. That's it.
