For those of you who had the chance to try the 223 6- and 7-irons, did you notice a distinctive difference in feel and maybe ball flight due to the different materials and construction? Thanks.

I only hit the 7 iron. I wouldn’t imagine they would feel different since they are constructed the same. You mean 7 vs. 8? 8-GW is where they don’t use chromoly, remove the micro slot inserts, and construct the same as 221s.

For what it’s worth, the TXG guys made a comment in their 223 review when hitting the 223 PW that it definitely felt different and almost like an iron from a different set rather than the same or progression of the set.

Sorry, I meant 7- vs 8-iron, it was quite early when I typed my question…

Thanks a lot!

Well, it is different. Chromoly versus 1025E and no micro slot in the 8-PW. They did the same in the MP20 HMB. Mizuno's take is you want more consistency in those irons rather than a "hot" face. You may need to tweak the lofts a degree stronger in 8-PW based on what you find. That's what I plan on doing.

That looks like a great idea. I noticed after the 8 iron, the lofts get dramatically weaker compared to other irons in same category (e.g. T100S) by about 5 degrees instead of 4 degrees, with set GW finishing at 51 degrees instead of 48. To me on paper, that looks like quite a gap. Wonder why Mizuno took this approach with the short irons?

I’m bending the longer irons weaker to remove offset (and add bounce) rather than adding offset (and reducing bounce) in the short irons.

Same. Ordered my 5-8 (223s) a degree weak. Though I’m wondering if I should’ve just matched the 5-9i lofts to the 221s. Will likely need a gapping session after delivery.

I don't know but if I'd kept my HMB's longer, I'd be strengthening the short irons. Instead, I'm getting MP-22 in a couple of weeks. I will adjust as needed.

Does anyone know if the Fli-Hi is specced in different lengths, between the graphite and the steel shaft options?

I seem to remember a video where somebody at Mizuno said the graphite shaft spec was longer than the steel shaft spec.

Mizuno site just lists them as these lengths:

2 iron: 39.75 inch long

3 iron: 39.25 inch long

4 iron: 38.75 inch long

Can anyone confirm these are standard lengths in both graphite and steel options?

I'm looking at the 19 degree 3 iron in HZRDUS black shaft.

I remember seeing on some store website that the steel shaft options are 1/4 inch shorter. the ones you have listed being the graphite length

Any of you have any hesitancy to putting a full set of 221s in your bag? I finally got to hit all 3 sets and just loved the feel of the 221s. This would also be my first set of blades, so just wasn’t sure what the norm is with other regular golfers.

Think it depends on how thorough the testing was, in my experience hitting a bladed 7 iron off a mat or driving range tee is typically quite easy.  Put me in the rough or uneven lie with a bladed long iron and its a whole different ballgame.  Even most professionals have help in their longer irons.

Just finished trying these I currently game MP20 MMCs I saw a slight increase in distance when comparing the 223s they definitely feel more powerful than MMCs.  I decided to give the 225s a try they were actually flying higher than my current set despite the stronger loft while obviously going further as well.  Ended up ordering a set of the 225s since I already have MMCs.  Only issues I might see with the 223s would be the transition from chromoly and the slots to the standard forging there could be a larger distance gap there than the lofts would suggest.  I’m impressed and looking forward to giving them a go.

Saw your post and wanted to follow up how the 225s played out? I’m currently gaming MMCs but tried 225s on mats and felt great, more forgiving.

I have had them since release and love them I enjoyed the MMCs however I struggled with the longer irons.  The 225s are a perfect blend the long irons are very forgiving and the short irons are great the 9 iron and lower were actually thinner than the MMCs.  I didn’t have any issues with fliers or holding greens my miss is toe strikes and they were very forgiving.  I also enjoyed the set gap wedge with the slightly stronger lofts it fit the bag perfectly.  Whenever I see people discussing combo sets I immediately recommend these they check all the boxes with no combo needed.  Hope this helps.
