Has anyone tried Shimada iron shafts before? Shimada NINE9

Hi guys,

Heard it's a very renowned shaft in Asia. A bit surprised that there aren't many mention about it in this forum.

Can anyone describe the feeling for this shaft? comparing to Modus105.

I’m currently gaming them on my CB301.  I can’t compare them to the modus, but I get higher launch with them then my KBS Tour 90.  Also, I normally play regular flex shafts (low swing speed), but I’m stiff in the Shimada Nine9. I find them very consistent for me.

I'd had Shimada tour lites in the past and found them to be very smooth and consistent. I know that's a different model than you're asking, but I think you'll really find them to be fantastic shafts.

I like Shimada NINE9, they feel very smooth, I think they are very similar to Oban CT. However, when I assembly them to my irons, it seems they have a bit smaller diameter to fit into 355 hosel. I have to use shim

Great shaft company.  I play different shafts, the tours, however I highly recommend the quality of the shafts from Shimada.

I recently pulled the Shimada Tour Lite from my Vega VDC01 and had stiff Modus 3 Tour 105's fitted.  I loved the Shimada's, the feel was exceptional, but for me, and this is very personal, because my swing has improved recently (lost weight, added strength and improved flexibility) I needed something that did not unload as fast.  For me, (7-iron swing speed ~85mph) the Modus 3 are a little stiffer with less kick, so gives me closer dispersion and a slightly lower launch angle (it has also resulted in 5-10 yards more, but that was not the main reason for the change - it's the closer dispersion that made it worthwhile for me).  I felt guilty pulling the Shimadas, they have such great feel, but it didn't last long as my handicap dropped and they went to a good home on someone else's Titlests

I tried both the Shimada's and the Nippon 105's and I'm able to get a higher ball and closer dipersionwith the Shimada's which I wanted for the hard packed greens in the desert.  I've only tried them on the trackman and hopefully will be able to test them on the course in the next few days.

I played Shimada tour lites in 2 sets of pxg 311p I  had . 1 set was taper ; the other was parallel. The tapers felt better and were  one of the best I Have  EVER USED COMPARED  to  modus tour 105  and Nippon 950. Actually sorry I SOLD THAT SET UP. I check with cpm machine and sw SCALE  all my clubs and that set was very good.You cant go wrong with their product. Very smooth ; and great dispersion.

I'm loving the Shimada shafts so far.  I'm getting a higher ball trajectory and loving it.  I would give them a try on the course.

Interesting... I've read about Nine9 on TSG when they came out and apparently they were pretty stiff for their weight? Can anyone comment on that?

 

Anyways, I play Tour 115 and K's 8001 and they're both very good. Just need to find what fits your swing.

I tested shimada tours in my tc201, ended up going with rifle 6.5s. I liked the Shimada feel, but couldn't beat rifle dispersion

Any updates on the Nine9?  I'm reading it may pay stiff to flex.  Can any one compare this flex wise to the Modus 105 Regular and Stiff flex?  How about to the Shimada Tour Lite flex for flex?

Heard they play stiffer to flex as well but who knows. Good luck finding them though. Seems like they’re sold out in all the usual places I buy from.

From specs, it appears that the Shimada Tour Lite's are closest to the Nippon NS Pro 1050's, or possibly the Modus 105's.  I would guess that the Modus would be generally a more stout shaft overall though.  Any insights?

I had some version of a Shimada steel shaft in a driving iron years back. I believe it had a green label. I liked the shaft: relatively responsive with a pronounced kick through impact. Launch on mine was more mid-high and played pretty true to flex. It ended up launching/spinning a bit much for what I was looking for in the driving iron but I loved the feel of it and got positive reviews on it from others as well. If I had to compare them to something, I'd probably say KBS 90, but the feel is quite different with the Shimadas playing a tad firmer and having almost more of a counterbalanced feeling profile. If they came out on top in a fitting, I'd have absolutely no issues gaming them.

Thanks for chiming in.  Its interesting that you find them comparable to KBS 90.  You find it similar to KBS flex for flex?  I find KBS firm feeling and the 7001 and 3001 I tried a long time back seemed to feel on point flex wise or maybe a tad soft to flex. I find KBS plays firmer.

 

The very limited seller feedback on the Nine9 is they play stiffer to flex.  Thats making me a tad hesitant on the Stiff I was thinking of.

Can you advise on the flex of the Nine9 compared to the Modus 105 flex for flex please. Will a Nine9 STIFF play stiffer than a Modus 105 Stiff?

I managed to get a Nine9 set in stiff and have had a range session with my 7I Grind Studio irons.  These do NOT play stiff to flex.  Dispersion was very good.  Ball flight is a tad higher but distance was very good especially seeing my Grnd Studio irons are traditonally lofted and 1 to 2 degrees weaker than my Artisan 720CB.

 

Will proceed to shaft the entire set.

If anyone is looking for a lightER weight steel shaft that is super smooth with a tight dispersion, do try the Nine9.  I've 4 sets now with a spare new set.  I'd say the stiff is very similar in flex to the Modus 105 Stiff.

I have a set of Shimada Constant Tapers in my PTX Pros. I bought them blindly off of Facebook but they have worked out quite well. High launch and spin in a light weight profile. 8 iron on down is drop and stop or spin back a few feet in soft conditions. I'm still able to knock them down in windy conditions. Feel wise, they remind me of a blend of Rifle 5.0 and KBS tour V. They have a smooth feel with a nice little kick at impact. My S200s in my Yamahas feel a bit boardy in comparison. Traj and spin are also lower and the balls tend to run out more. I just wish Shimada wasn't so expensive.
