Seattle Wedge Fitting

In the past I’ve had a few wedge fittings as an afterthought to a full bag fitting, but they were always in warmer/drier places/times of year. I’m looking for a good Pacific Northwest wedge fit, preferably in the Seattle area although I could go to Portland.  Ideally there would be a selection of brands, and it would have to be outdoors for real turf interaction.  Any recommendations for a knowledgeable fitter would be much appreciated.

I'd be really curious to know if you find something -- have looked for this in the past around here and nothing was the perfect fit. The shops have the brand selection and variety of loft/bounces. I know the Titleist guys get around the area. Saw them at Willows in Redmond a few Saturday's ago, and they had the Vokey's lined up for fittings.

 

I think you're spot on that its important to do this fitting outside -- especially with the variety we have here. So I'd try to grab a pro and do a wedge lesson specifically to give you advice on your current stuff, and what would work better for where and when you play. Guys at Gregg Rogers in Bellevue are good. Could try them or some of he other stores and see if you could do some fitting time indoors to down select some brands / options that appeal to you, weed out others you don't, and then see if you can spend some time doing a "playing" lesson of sorts on a course.

 

When I moved the northwest from the desert I had to rethink my whole wedge game. First few years I played same clubs I had from down south. Got by in the summer. Terrible short game in the wet part of the year. I set up some playing lessons and was able to dial in what grinds/bounce worked best for me in different conditions. Ended up now where I have an arsenal that I pick from based on how much it rained the last couple days and if I'm playing a course that drains well or one that doesn't. Especially the bunkers. High bounce for the softer sands and lower bounce when it's hard mud.

I have not done it yet, but I have heard great things about Redbird Sports and their Avian wedge fitting system from several local pros and good players. The clubs look amazing, as long as you are open to custom clubs versus needing to have "branded names"- they make beautiful clubs and really great quality. I think they have an indoor studio if that is an issue for you, but indoor vs. outdoor shouldn't really make a difference since they can measure all your AoA/etc. Good luck - their studio is right down the street from Jefferson Park Golf Course.
