ANOTHER MMT question? Yes, sorry, I did search. C-Taper LIte X vs MMT 105tx

Recommended Posts

Anybody who likes C-Taper Lite in X tried the MMT 105tx? Weight is nearly identical, but my understanding is that CTLX is a "weaker" X and the MMT is true to flex or possibly strong to flex. Looks like they go 3-PW so SS would be an option for me in a 4-PW set.

I have seen that there is going to be a decent difference in SW values, but I'm happy at D3-4 for my irons at stock length with standard size grips with a touch of build, so I don't think it would be hard to get there.

I know everybody is different, but wanted to see if anybody has made a direct comparison.

I've been using C-Taper Lite X shafts for the last four years. I recently had an MMT 105s put in my 7 iron to demo. My 7 iron swing speed averages 87 but goes up to 89. The 105s handled it fine. I found it very comparable in flex to the CTL X and my dispersion was much tighter with the MMT. Ultimately I have opted to go with the 105tx soft stepped. My tempo was a little too inconsistent with the light weight of the 105s and my launch and spin were slightly higher than I want, so the TX soft stepped should be a good fit. Unfortunately I don't have any experiences to share with the TX because they're still on the way via USPS. They'll be in any day now and then I can have my fitter build out my set. The swing weight will be interesting to see since the CTL is counterbalanced a bit. They were D2 in my MP-18 MMC straight from Mizuno.

I've tested the CTL and game the MMT 125TX.  CTL would play just a touch softer to flex although it's still pretty stout.  Not quite rebar like the OG c-taper though.  MMT play true to flex.  When I talked to Eric over at New Level, he mentioned that they swing weight higher than most iron shafts.  At standard length, mine would've come out to D5 but after having him cut them down 1/4 inch, they came out at D3.  Hope this helps.
